In addition to Stephanie Garrets comment

If you are autoreleasing and verifying you need to add - "\V"; to the
end of the calculation. Otherwise it will stay pending
Ie:
(CKMB*100:3D/CPK)_"\V";

We are CS but I imagine the Calc works the same

Mark,

As long as you have a test defined to the calculation and that test is
in the Analyzer dictionary as one of the channels, you can autorelease a
calculation. The channel also has to be included in the autorelease
definition where you list the channels to autorelease. This is on a
Siemens Dimension RXL in 5.63. Please let me know if I can provide you
with any additional info.

Thank you,
Stephanie

Is anyone using the autorelease function in meditech been able to figure
out if its possible to autoverify a calculation that is not performed on
the instrument? We are implementing a OCD Vitros 5600. Thank you.

Charlie,
We did one unit at time and so far just the inpatient areas. As a
matter of fact our last inpatient unit goes live next week. We opted to
take our Mental Health/Detox Unit first - no transfers except on a rare
occasion on the Detox unit and the Mental Health unit never. We then
went up with our Ortho unit, Gen Surgical, Gen Medical/Oncology, Cardio
& ICU unit and lastly, next week, our Women's/Children units. It has
worked great for those of us in IT that have had to do the teaching and
support but it was a bit of a problem for nursing doing it this way
because of the transfers.

Anyone willing to share their Meditech Module change request process flow and change request form(s) with me?

Trying not to re-invent the wheel as we attempt to standardize, update and redesign PCS and OE. Our change request process will also include/apply to: EDM and ORM as well.

Please reply back directly to me to avoid clogging the list. Anyone interested in my results can also e-mail me directly and I will share.

When we went live with eMAR/BMV 2 years ago we developed a work around
process for IV rate changes. For basic IVF's we have an admin CDS
attached that includes 4 queries:
IV Rate:(mls/hr), Rate Changed (Y/N) at- (Time) Reason* (group response)

When hanging a new bag - the bag is scanned, the CDS is completed and
the administration is documented as given. On the CDS an attribute
defaults the ordered rate(DFT=@p.PHA.RX.rate.volume)and Rate change "N"
skips the time and reason.

For Rate changes - the bag is NOT scanned, instead the administration is
a full documented. The CDS is completed, the administration is
documented as Not Given and the reason Rate Change is selected. This
prevents the system from charging for another bag and highlights the
administration as not given. Documenting the administration as not given
also prevents it from counting against the users individual scanning
compliance rate.

For drips that are being titrated frequently we no not require them to
document EVERY rate change in eMAR since this is usually noted somewhere
else in the record. Our policy is that, at least once every two hours
they full document in eMAR the medication as Not Given and note the
current rate. The CDS attached to these meds also includes a free text
comment field where they can document a summary if they want.

Hopefully one day Meditech will develop a standard way to document IV
rate changes. Our work around is not perfect but it is has worked well
enough for us for the past two years.

Thanks, Susan :-)

Hello Meditech-Lers,

Does anyone have a ORM NPR report that reports on patient profile that
they are willing to share.

I want to write a report that is selecting information from the patients
profile in ORM. I can get the report to find the correct patient but I
do not see any way to select the proper profile.

It would be ideal if it worked same as the entrer/edit patient profile.

I would appreciate any assistance or a copy of a report you currently
use to do this.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
Yes, Elizabeth is correct. We are $T also, and it has been a royal pain
for
us as well. We too, have off site clinics, and physicians do get angry
when
we can only print the reports to one place. However, we also tell them,
that the report is available to them on-line at any time; both in
MEDITECH
and in our FUJI PACS system. Eventually, we plan to go paperless, so
they
have to learn, right?

Has anyone implemented e-MAR/BMV in stages? For example one unit every

until they are all live? I know that it would be problematic when
patients

but
would like to know specific problems and the solutions. Also, if you did
this and it didn't work, the hows and whys.

How are those of you who are live with the e-MAR having the nurses
document
IV rate changes? It looks the only option is to document in nursing. I
firmly believe that Meditech needs to create a function where you can
document each rate change against the med. Possibly re-scanning the med
under this function and enter the new rate? Also, how are you handling
rate
changes for drips that are based on an algorithm such as a heparin drip?
Is
nursing expected to notify pharmacy each time that they have changed a
rate
and pharmacy in turn edit the rate?

Thanks,

We are implementing Clinical Review and I have a question.

In the orders history section, there are a lot of orders showing that we

bulk medications.

Have any of you been able to exclude these from showing in the orders

Any help would be appreciated

Hi All,

Just looking to find feedback on how other facilities are handling the
situation below, any and all responses on how your organization goes
about this process would be appreciated.

We are wondering how anyone handles the 'multiple orders for the same
patient on the same day' problem, along with you deal with the
distribution of the results (on paper or electronically) for those
patients.

Do you create two account numbers and then manually combine them on the
'back end' for billing purposes?

Do you create one account number and make the departments responsible?

Anything on this process in relations to the Admissions, Laboratory and
Radiology Departments are all greatly welcomed for our folks here to
reference.

As always thanks in advance!

Hi Charlie,

We went up a unit at a time and it worked great. Meditech ran the
Copy/Edit utility for each unit's go-live. We started with a unit that
didn't transfer patients and then went to ICU. Once ICU was up for a
couple of weeks we did all of MedSurg. We are working on ED and PACU now
- trying to get the dispensing machine interface to work. Respiratory
therapy went up on all units from day 1.

The nice thing about going up a unit at a time is you can concentrate
your resources.

Thanks,

Has anyone implemented e-MAR/BMV in stages? For example one unit every

but
would like to know specific problems and the solutions. Also, if you did

The nurses in my facility are up in arms that we can't create a drop
down box for admin comments.

Example - pt was in dialysis when morning meds were due; now 2 hours
later, nurse is administering the medications and needs to show why the
meds were given beyond the variance time (for risk management)

Other than using CTRL-C to copy and CTRL-V to paste - has anybody else
found a way to make it easier for nurses to enter identical admin
comments on multiple medications? Or do you have another way with
dealing with this type of situation that is easy for the nurses to do?
I would be very appreciative of any help.

We are e-MAR only not BMV. We went live with E-MAR at the same time as
documentation.

We went live with all new admits on all in-patient units. We marked the
spines of the hard copy records "PAPER CHART" If the patient was
admitted on paper, we discharged them on paper. Since we had never
documented electronically this was good for staff to transition into the
computer charting with 1-2 patients the first day, then by the end of
the week, most of their patients were electronic.

Then as patients were admitted, their clinical documentation and e-MAR
was electronic. This way as patient's transferred from ICU to other
units they didn't have to transition from a paper MAR to eMAR.

Respiratory went live all at once with all patients and printed every
assessment which the secretaries filed on the "Paper Chart" records for
the first 2 weeks, then we converted anyone left on paper to electronic
charting (there were 3 long term patients left)

After the in-patient patients were electronic, we then added the Skilled
nursing unit and outpatient areas (pre-admit, cath lab and infusion
clinic)

When (if) we ever do BMV, I look forward to doing that one unit at a
time.

We are a Magic site and you can use a reason code such as "DIALYSIS" or
"OFF UNIT". Typically these are reserved for instances where the med is
not given but at least this could be a consistent approach. With BMV,
you would likely have to click on the time to add the reason code after
scanning. Not an elegant solution but at least the information would be
stored with the administration in a hard-coded format which might make
reporting easier later.

If you want to stick with the Admin Comments, you can create a mnemonic
in Canned Text in PHA based on a mnemonic. The nurse would have to hit
F4 and then type the code as free text. We are Magic so I am not sure if
this is possible in C/S.

Charlie,

For the Heparin, PCA's and other Critical Care drips we use Titrate as a
rate and have the Average Rate defined for each drug on page 9 of the
drug dictionary. The Titration parameters (Starting rate, Max rate,
Titrate to Keep, and Hold parameters are all part of an Admin Criteria
CDS. There are some issues because the med shows up on the eMAR based
on the Average Rate setting. Our nurses only document on the eMAR when
they hang a new bag so they will often need to document the time as not
given or document an unscheduled time because the hang time is off. We
do not allow nurses to adjust any medication times.

Rate changes for IV fluids are done using a Nursing Intervention . For
Critical Care infusions our nurses were automated (using Iatrics Visual
Flow sheet) but switched back to a manual form about a year ago. They
will be going back to an electronic version in the near future.

Do any of you have nursing entering pharmacy orders after hours? I would

appreciate any input. We currently have only 2 pharmacists (and are
lucky to
have that). We are critical access so we don't have a ton of business
after
hours.
Good and bad experiences welcomed.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
We are a magic 5.61 hospital and I'm wondering if anyone has a
statistical NPR report in Scheduling to track physician referrals for
specific outpatient appointments that they're willing to share. As
always, any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi all-

Can someone help me out here regarding the Datamax printers.

We are CS 5.62 and I am having a terrible time getting the Datamax Label
printers to the way I want.

I am only able to select a few fonts that print, even though I am
specifying a different font in my label fragments.

I am unable to get any bold face print with any font or font size I
select even though the fragment has this information.

I am unable to get more than one copy of a label to print. I am trying
to have 2 labels print for my prescription labels.

I will note, I use an old Zebra printer to print Cart Labels and have
not problems printing fonts or boldface.

I have not tried printing 2 labels on this printer.

I have tried what MT has in their KB articles about fonts, bold facing,
and printing multiple copies but all to no avail.

Are changes required on the Datamax printer itself? Does anyone have
label fragments that print bold face fonts or multiple copies I could
compare my label fragments to?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

HCGH is hosting a 2-day MEDITECH Magic Beginners NPR Report Writer
Class, on Monday and Tuesday, October 5-6-2009. The class will be held
here at HCGH, in our Computer Training Room. The class is being taught
by Chuck Waterbury, from Iatric Systems.

If you are interested in sending anyone to this class, and therefore
sharing in the cost, please let me know. The total cost of the class
will be divided up amongst all of the participating hospitals, on a cost
per attendee basis. The total cost of the class will likely be in the
$3000-3500 range. Iatric Systems will invoice each hospital directly,
based on the number of attendees each sends.

In order to reserve slots, I will need a firm commitment by providing
the names, titles, and contact information of those you will be sending.

Remember - this is a Beginners class - please do not send experienced
NPR report writers.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and response.

This is resolved via the BAR Panels. You create unique Claim Maps which
can either "compress" a CPT Panel (many>one), or "expand" (one>many) it.

There is a prompt in the Claim Map dictionary to indicate it is a
'panel'. I believe you need to coordinate with your Meditech BAR or CL
Specialists, also there is a KB Article (9400) on it.
Just search the KB, for BAR and Panels, I received 10 items for my
search.

Message-ID:

We are Magic 5.61 "Pharmacy". And I've created a label and would like
to print copies to a Datamax-I thermal printer.

I've tried using the "AL PRINT (D(27)_"&l"_c.xx.copies_"X")^!", but
that's for HP printers.

I have one label/report already "created by someone else" that prints
copies just fine to my datamax printers. But I can't incorporate it to
my new npr report. And if I edit the LC it won't let me save the LC,
but yet it works.

I got this out of the datamax manual:

*** BEGIN QUOTE
*************************************************************

This command sets the number of the label copies to be printed. A one to
five

digit value is allowed, if the command is delimited by a carriage return
<CR>.

This permits host applications to generate label quantity commands
without the

need to pad leading zeros. (A four-digit command value does not need to
be <CR>

terminated.)

Syntax: Qnnnnn

Where: nnnnn - Is a one to five-digit delimited value setting for the
number of

labels to be printed. The default value is one.

Sample: <STX>L

121100000000000Testing<CR>

Q0020<CR>

E<CR>

The sample will print a batch of 20 identical labels.

*** END QUOTE
***************************************************************

Can I adjust the "AL PRINT (D(27)_"&l"_c.xx.copies_"X")^!" somehow to
use the escape code above? And if so - how?

Or is there someway to do a "DO LOOP" to print copies to my existing
label to the datamax? It's a very simple npr report - I just need
copies. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm working with our case management department to improve their
information gathering & tracking. One of the areas that we're not sure
we're collecting everything we need is the denial & appeal tracking.

If your case management department is using the denial & appealing
tracking in the UR sub-module in ABS, could you share your process? If
you're using a CDS there, could you share it, as well?

Thanks!

OK, I received a message that I was being removed from the "L" due to
too many "bounces". (I re-subscribed of course)...

Please help, what is this 'bounce" and how do I resolve so that it
doesn't happen? Is this an internal (in-house security) issue I can get
resolved?

Thank you,
Cindy Bodnar-Anderson

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Lag in Posting Times

Happy Friday to all!

If you notice a lag in the time that it takes your email to post to the
L, please consider unsubscribing and resubscribing. I have noticed that
a small percentage of posts from 'regulars' hit a "non-member" filter on
the L server. I approve these messages ASAP, but sometimes there is a
time delay. Sometimes an email address has changed and other times, the
L just doesn't seem to have recognized a member (maybe you changed your
hair style).

99.9% of the time, if no filtering is involved, you should get your post
confirmation email and see your post in your L mail within minutes. If
you're experiencing longer post times, refer to the above solution.
I've worked with two members this week and this has resolved their lag
time.

Remember, if you're trying to send a large attachment (screen shots,
etc), it's going to hit a filter whether you're a recognized member or
not. The attachment will be stripped from your email automatically and
I will approve the text that's left. .npr reports ARE an exception to
this and will be passed through the filters.

*******As always, I encourage you to post your replies to the L so that
we can all benefit from your knowledge.********
If we would all do that, we wouldn't have to see the "Please post"
replies. :)

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Julia

Also check out the resource page on my website. I have an article on how
to
use the data from the Daily Ops summary on any NPR report.
