I am not very knowledgeable about the set up of NetPrint, my co-worker

I believe the question she is asking is can an NPR print an EXISTING PDF
file that is stored somewhere in the Meditech Environment. That is how I
read the question anyway.
The original poster needs to clarify her question.

I think I misunderstood your question. Are you wanting to print an
existing
pdf from an NPR report or print an NPR report to a pdf file?

Sent to me offline:
I want to attach a pdf form to automatically print from intervention in
nursing. Meditech said I would have to manually print form. We have the
following attached to forms menu.
Z.link.to.shell(Q("http://laneweb.lrmc.org/forms/ns/1523.pdf"))

| There's always some type of work around. You could use one of the free
| pdf printer drivers, such as "cutepdf". You can find it on download.com
| . If it can't be automated within magic, then you could script it. I
| use a program called "macro scheduler" that basically operates my
| computer unattended to do various tasks at night, including things I
| want done in Meditech. I'm sure between macro scheduler and cutepdf or
| other pdf printer driver of your choice you could automate the output of
| an NPR report to pdf file or pdf to email. I also use a program called
| "fineprint" to control all my printers. I think you would need to print
| to "LOCAL" to make that work. But if you are going to do a lot of
| different reports that way, it might be kind of cumbersome, especially
| if you were having reports kick out during the day at various times.
| Then I would probably also use Virtualbox "or other virtualization" or
| have a dedicated computer to do the work.

Carolyn, straighten us all out, what do you need the npr report to do.
I think I have seen examples of printing stored files from custom npr
reports.
Sorry for the mis-reading of the request...
We do the same thing, but it is from a menu and is manually run.
I have not done this pdf printing via an npr automatically in NUR
ACTIVITY printing, but I print Forms Fast overlays via a macro, so I
would think it can be done.
I will look around and if I find the correct npr code/syntax I will send
it to you.

This tool acts like a printer, so you choose to "print" but you print to
the PDF995 printer. This turns the document into a PDF (the downside is
you have to save it somewhere and if you use the free tool, you have to
click through a couple of sponsor blocks). I've been using it for years.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Print PDF form from NPR Report
It is a MIS.USER REPORT with a macro calling the link you define.
I would try this in the NUR.PC.WORK.zcur.prt report you will need to
create to print this pdf file.
See attached Magic Report in 5.62 for examples.
Here is the macro call
1^/Z.SCHED.LOG^/R.FRAGMENT,
%Z.link.to.shell("www.picis.com");
PAGE 1 of the report and this may be a problem with the NUR ACTIVITY
PRINTING report, but try it anyway.
Report DPM MIS.USER Report Name zcus.picis.bms.web
Report Title "_%MIS.USER.zcus.picis.bms.web.M.s(0)_"
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I am including a report from Chuck Lovelace RN that houses macros with
various links to forms on different directories and in different
formats.
Some Word documents, Power Point Presentations,etc.
These are called from menus.
But again, maybe we can incorporate similar logic in a macro and call it
via a macro in a title or a footnote (we call our Forms Fast forms in
NURISNG via a footnote).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also seen these files printed via a query attribute, so maybe try
and add the attribute to the intervention screen to print the pdf file
you need, if the custom report does not autoprint the form correctly.
FCL1="http://www.nursingconsult.com/das/patient/view/115078747-2"^WEB,
FCL1=IF{@.response="Y" %Z.link.to.shell
FCL1=(WEB_"/10072/24185.html/top?sid=787232095&SEQNO=1")X;""}
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's one that launches immediately as the cursor is about to land in a
query:
IFE=%Z.link.to.shell("Enter full website address here")
If you want to launch it only if the user enters a new response to a
query:
FCL1=%Z.link.to.shell("Enter full website address here")
--------------------------------------------------------------------
To launch a web page from a query, there are several ways, here is one:
FCL1=IF{@.response="Y",
FCL1=%Z.link.to.shell("http://www.cdc.gov/node.do/id/0900f3ec8000e2f3")X
}
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is another one that give you more options, you are using a macro
report, a shell report where you built macros to call from queries. You
can call web sites, word documents on a shared drive or the pc your
working on, power point presentations, exel, etc...Whatever you put into
your macro, you can call it from a query (print a report or form).
Place these lines of code in a macro:
"C:\myLocation\myProgram.exe"^/PATH,
%Z.dos.link.no.file(/PATH)
When the macro is executed Meditech will minimize and the program you
have
called will become active. When you close the called program you will
be
returned back to Meditech.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not much different than calling an NPR report from an attribute.
I just tried this an it worked perfectly.
Here is the attribute:
FCL1=IF{@.response="Y"
%MIS.zcus.is.shell.m.cdc(aa,"MIS.zcus.is.shell.M.cdc")}
Here is the macro: "J"\MT\Iexplore.exe"^A
D(34)_"http:/www.cdc.gov"_D(34)^B,
%Z.dos.link.no.file(A,B)<
EXIT;
The MT is a folder we have on our network J drive which all employees
have
access to, I have placed the Iexplore executable file in that drive to
call
from the macro. If your using all the same operating system, ie XP, and
all of your PC's are loaded with Internet Explorer, you can just call it
directly from the program file. The problem occurs when you have
different operating systems ie, some XP, some NT, some 2000, such as we
do, you have to put a different path for each operating system. We are
in the process of upgrading all of our PC's to XP, so in the meantime,
it is much cleaner to use a shared folder on our network.

You can upload the form to a laser printer and have it stored in its memory (using, for example, a product like Iatric's forms online) and then 'trigger' the printing using a macro code in the NPR report.
You can then also 'overlay' the data with the form and have a filled in form come out.
We do this with a number of forms; we even have forms uploaded that do not fill in data but that staff can trigger to fill in manually (ex. cheque requisition form).
Please note that you need to be able to edit an NPR report to insert your own macro trigger; which means, in some cases, creating a new NPR report off of a standard report.
