I have built a large IV Order String dictionary that has gone a long way
in standardizing how IV's are profiled by Pharmacists. It also plays
big part in reducing
errors in our IV admixture process.

Problem is these strings are also available in POM/EDM. IV adds are
easier to build/manage and present themselves nicer in EDM when built in
Quickscripts.

I am looking for a way to restrict selected Order Strings or even the
entire order String Dictionary to Pharmacy only.

Has anyone run into this issue and if so how have you managed it? I do
not want to take IV Order Stings away from the Pharmacists.

Meditech has been totally useless with this issue.

-Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,
I definitely feel your pain. And am guessing that you're Client Server
although Magic may have now adopted this 20 steps backwards approach
too. IV Order Strings were the greatest thing Meditech ever gave us
pharmacy wise. And after a lot of kicking and screaming, I was able to
keep the EDM/POM and PHA strings separate but equal in Magic.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the details and how we made this happen.
But when we migrated to Client Server, there was absolutely no way this
was going to happen. So there was no choice but to go back to 1999 and
build all the PHA IV Order Strings as Order Sets again. That's where
we're at now and that increase in efficiency and safety that PHA IV
Order Strings provided is nothing but a sweet memory. Oh well, we will
be going whole house CPOE soon, and all these problems will be behind
us.

Mike,

We had the same issue when we were going LIVE with CPOE. We ended up with a Custom from Meditech. The Custom is in our pharmacy Order String dictionary so that each Order String Group has a "Suppress from POM" Yes or No section. If the order string group is set to suppress (Y) then these order strings are not available for ordering in POM. I had to copy a few order string groups and make changes so that only the desired order strings (split and compound meds) were available in POM.

We are Magic 5.63 pp7 but received the custom when we were either 5.6 SR0 or 5.62.
