Hi all,
Does anyone have an NPR that shows ER admits with a > 3 hours length of
stay, and then the same patients were admitted?
Even if it is an earlier Meditech version, I probably can change it. We
do not have EDM.

The following works in ADM and OE - not sure where else.
Do you need to choose between 2 (or more) doctors with similar
mnemonics? There is an extended search that allows you to view
additional detail, select provider types (Resident, Staff, etc) and/or
provider groups and even lists the provider's phone number.
At the Order Dr. prompt, type first few letters of the last name /X.
Then press the Lookup key (F17 or F9 on a PC). The Provider Look-up
Select Screen displays.

We had a presentation recently from Meditech marketing on their new 6.0
platform. Yes, Meditech is saying they will not be supporting any other
vendor scanning products in 6.0. There is supposed to be a utility to
import all your Valco documents into the new Meditech product. That's
about all the info they provided. The presenters wouldn't answer
questions about it in much detail, they pretty much glossed it over.

There relationship has been sunset for a long time. Valco used to be
one of their prime vendors but when they developed their scanning
product that relationship ended. If you are planning to move towards
Meditech's 6.0 platform you will have to convert to Meditech Arch and
Scanning. We are Magic 5.62 in Test and have been using Valco for
Scanning for 4 plus years. We are looking at 6.0 but I am in no hurry
to go down that path. Not sure how you justify scrapping a scanning
solution and spending $$$$$ for Meditechs solution. Valco currently has
about 300 plus Meditech customers, not sure how many others are using
other third party scanning solutions.

Hi Yvonne,
We are caught in this mess.
Originally, Meditech's archiving solution was really just the software
license for ODA and VALCO supplied the hardware. However, Meditech no
longer sells the ODA product/module and has pursued their own scanning
and
archiving module (SCA) that does not use hardware supplied by VALCO.
Apparently, the WORM technology used by the ODA jukebox is overly
expensive
and no longer a viable technology for the long term. I think Meditech
and
VALCO are still working together for existing clients but Meditech is
happy
to switch folks over to SCA at a reduced price if you are using ODA.
Meanwhile, we have ODA, our server is obsolete, and we are trying to
determine how to move forward - Meditech's stand alone solution or
VALCO's
stand alone solution...

We are a 5.5 Magic site using Magic ITS, our Medical Imaging reports are being typed in ITS right now. We have had a few issues with reports being "corrupt" or the body of the report missing. We have narrowed it down to CT reports when 2 different CT's are ordered. When testing we can't recreate it. Has anybody else had any problems with this. Meditech hasn't been much help. Of course Transcription corrects the report then we have nothing to look at! Any help would be appreciated.

Except that only works if you have First Data Bank. After having a task open with Meditech for a couple of years, through a couple of upgrades, wondering
why I could not set these equivalencies - I was told that Medispan was not supported.
I suspect Micromedix might not be supported either - but don't know for sure.
Now that FDB is going to stop updating AWP's, I doubt that we will switch our formulary service provider either.
Oh well. So much for consistency. Cindy

The other option is to put the conversion into your Unit of Measure
dictionary (MAGIC). Change the drug item to TAB and then set the
equivalency to CHW=1. The dose range will look up into this dictionary.
This will allow you to keep up with the current doses while not having
"silly" stuff showing for the drug.
Just my 2 cents.

Subject: Re: [MEDITECH-L] Dose ranges
Hi - depending which FSV provider you have, the dose ranges could be
tricky. The dose ranges from the FSV are based on Dispense forms from
the FSV.
For example, if you have a combination drug tablet (kid's vitamin) and
the FSV has defined the form as CHW, but in your drug dictionary, you
have changed
it to TAB or made one called CHEWTAB and possibly inactivate the
nonsensical one from the FSV, you will get a pop-up that says - "cannot
calculate dose
range."
To avoid this, if I made my own dose ranges, I created a dose type -
ADULT DOSE, PEDI DOSE and so forth. In the Customer defined parameters
you can restrict
what you want to flag by Schedule to DOSE types that you have made. The
FSV dose type is "STANDARD" if you really want those to flag,
and you put "STANDARD" in you designated dose types, then you should go
through every drug - at least the topical and opthalmics, TAKE OUT THE
DOSE
RANGE IN THE DRUG ON PAGE 6 AND CHECK "PROTECT" FROM FSV" so that you
don't get it overwritten and put back next time you file the FSV.
Some of the FSV STANDARD dose ranges are perfectly acceptable, but a lot
of them are nonsense. If I find a dose range I want flagged, I will
recreate it
under my own dose range type. However, since our dose ranges were
crated back in 4.3 and our dose range dictionary is rather a mess with
the upgrade,
I plan on having it wiped out and starting over.
The pharmacists have had too much garbage popping up on the for years.
We have it all turned off for our EDm and AOM doctors. They didn't want
it.
Its like - last thing on my list of things that need to be fixed. Cindy

Has anyone heard that Meditech will no longer be supporting Valco soon
because Meditech has developed their own scanning product?
If so, has Meditech confirmed or denied this?
Thanks!

I am new to writing NPR Macros. I have a macro that totals 23 queries.
The queries take up two CDS pages and the total is on the second page.
The macro works great except the first page gets corrupted with a total

Valco Data Systems
To All MEDITECH-L Subscribers,
I write to address the uncertainty raised about MEDITECH's support of
Valco's imaging products.
Let me offer some facts, not conjecture.
First, Valco is 100 percent committed to our customers. I guarantee
that our document imaging products will work with any version of
MEDITECH now and into the future.
While it is true that MEDITECH has developed some very basic scanning
applications, we have heard nothing directly from MEDITECH that it is no
longer supporting our document imaging products. Many customers have
engaged Valco in this discussion already. As a result, we are signing
long-term agreements to support those customers into version 6 and
beyond.
MEDITECH's new platform is still in development. We realize you are
bound to have questions. If you have not spoken to Valco yet, please
contact me so I may answer any and all questions you have about our
integration products and support for our customers.
Be assured, we are with our customers 100 percent.

Good morning. I have an NPR report that is pulling in the response

I have no problem getting the mnemonic to pull, but what I really want

A zcus field or a zcus report ?
Does the field have a Pointer? If so, there may be an equivalent field in
another DPM that you could use subscripting to get the data you need.
What's the field name and DPM?

analyze MEDITECH dictionaries from one hospital to the next and can
help synchronize multiple hospital dictionaries to maintain
standardization across facilities
* ? Significantly eases dictionary updates during a MEDITECH ring release
* ? Helps provide a more realistic training environment
? Assists in keeping critical dictionaries in synch over time
Summit CS Print Manager is designed to save MEDITECH Client Server users
time by automating the execution of reports which otherwise would have to
be manually run. CS Print Manager is an application, not a developer tool,
making the process of scheduling reports easy
* ? CS Print Manager enables users to setup reports through user
friendly configuration tables as opposed to a programming environment
* ? Allows users to automate the printing/downloading/archiving and

We opted to stay with our Lexmark Laser printer vs. going thermal.
We always did armbands so we just added the barcode.

Fields listed in DPM listings that do not have an associated
Offset/Val/Location are usually only available to NPR if used in conjunction
with an index. Without the index, those fields are not available.
A good example of this is ADM.PAT.date

I am trying to use a zcus field in NPR. It is in a zcus detail segment and
the field doesn't have a physical base.
I tried using it in computed field and assigning it's value in a Macro and
using it in a select relationship. Nothing seems to be working
Can NPR use fields that don't have physical bases?
thank you everyone

Hello Jim.
It has been a couple of years since we have had an error in a DBA, so I
cannot state what Caretaker message might be created as a result of an error
found in a DBA. Do you have such an example?? I would like to know what it
says.
Anyway, we have Array's Task Plus software and I have programmed it to look
for some of the Caretaker errors, such as failed backups. This message is
sent to our exchange server and then out to the person who is on-call.
The Task Plus error message also sends an e-mail to all of our I/S analysts,
so when they sign into their e-mail, either from home or at the hospital,
they will see that an error has occurred even if they are not taking call
that week.
Hope this helps.

Susan, I believe that was the guideline (4 hours) also used by a hospital I worked for. And I think that was fine for initial training. What is critical, and not always obvious, is the follow up education, or re-education, at some point down the road. Staff quickly learn workarounds and pass them on to others. There has to be a reality check in the process (such as review of scanning reports, direct observation of nurses using the system) to ensure that knowledge deficits, attitudes, bizarre ideas, lack of equipment, disconnects between Nursing, IT and Pharmacy, etc are not undermining the entire purpose of scanning. Admin has to approve the hours necessary for that re-education. Support of devices used for med passes has to be a high priority for IT.
When the facility I'm referring to grappled with its issues and did a 3 hour retraining, the class was fashioned like a tracker: following a patient from the ER to the ICU to Med Surg through multiple common problems. With each stop point (OK - we don't know the name of the med the patient was taking at home; we have to adjust the dose times; whatever) there was discussion of the issues and the process, and the nurses (who were each sitting at a device and using TEST) had to do something with the system, thus making the class a competency that was far more valid than a multiple choice test following a lecture. Each class was led by a nurse, a pharmacist and if possible, the facility's single Meditech analyst.
I repeatedly heard comments like "we should have done this ages ago", "we should do this every month for nurses who were hired the previous month", etc. Wish I could take credit for it - but at least I can share the idea.

We will be go live with eMAR/BMV in August with a pilot unit so I am
looking for some information from those of you whom have already gone up

an accurate time frame for training? If you have any other helpful hint

Hello All,
I have 2 questions regarding Edit/Undo functionality for online documentation, inpatient and outpatient.
1) How are you handling documentation access for Students? Can Students and Instructors undo/edit documentation that has already been entered. If so, can they only edit their own documentation or all documentation?
2) For all staff documenting in the online patient record, are you granting staff the access to Edit/Undo all documentation or just their own documentation? If just their own, how do you handle the situation where a staff member has gone home for the day and another staff member noticed that documentation was accidently placed on the incorrect patient?
As always, any info would be a big help!!!

This question is for anyone that has implemented Meditech CA. What was
the timeline for your implementation, did you use outside consultants to
facilitate the process, and if so, who did you use? Once you were up
and running, what resources have you needed to adequately maintain the
system? Any additional suggestions or tips are welcome.
Thank You.

We are C/S 5.5 sr2:
1. Students have their own care provider type and enter their own documentation. We have a click on Intervention in PCS that states the documentation was reviewed by the overseeing therapist. Our Protocol states that the click on is intended to acknowledge that the documentation has been reviewed/cosigned by the therapist. We do not allow anyone else to change or undo anyone else's documentation. Our philosophy was that in the paper world, you couldn't sign someone else's name as though you had documented.
2. If person had left for the day, a note is placed in the wrong account stating the documentation should have gone the other account. A note is placed in the correct account stating what had happened and that "Suzie Snowflake" documentated this data on the other account and then list the data.

I'm wondering if by chance anyone was successful in adding a font or bolding
fields on your requisition. I tried line attributes of PF=b and field
attributes FONT=b and neither worked. Whenever I add an attribute, all of
the font changes on the requisition. It sort of condenses and it hard to
read..it's like the space between the chars are less.
Thanks for any input.

Hi Susan,
You may have surmised this already but the only thing I would add to David's
response that I had to do was 'repeat' the computed field to increase the
height of the bar-code.
We needed to do this to more effectively scan the code.
So,
L10 Exam Bar Code: xx.exam.bar.cod
L11
xx.exam1.bc.2nd
xx.exam.bar.cod & xx.exam1.bc.2nd have the exat same logic
Cheers

Has anyone had luck adding a barcode to a UDF Requisition?
Meditech told me that I could add the element (account no, exam no, etc.)
and turn it into a barcode via a command. I can't find any documentation
re: the command that turns the data element into a barcode.
Thank you,
Susan
