How do you folks with Pyxis test TEST, if you know what I mean. I am
not aware of any way to make sure the Pyxis interface works by doing
testing in Meditech TEST.

What version of Meditech? 5.6 has a "dispensing machine emulator" that you
can use to test the interface.

That is one of the big issues with Pyxis vs Omnicell that actually has a
TEST environment.

MAGIC ver 5.61 has a Pyxis emulator that you can create messages to send
through the interface. However, overrides must be tested the TEST
workstation. Call Pyxis and find out if they will make you a deal on a
TEST system. Ours is wonderful.

Hi,

I know what you mean and this is what we've done to partially test. In
Meditech there is routine called Test Pyxis Filer. This was provided by
Meditech. We use this to generate messages out of Meditech. We then
review the messages in the Outbox. In the past, I've sent these out to
our Pyxis Interface Engineer for review. It is not the best process but
it is better than going cold turkey! Of course, you could always
purchase a Test system from Pyxis but this is very costly.

Good Luck.

We actually have a TEST Pyxis Console and MedStation in the Pharmacy.
We do have to pay for it, but it is very convenient. We also have a
TEST MedStation in our Nursing Education department for training new
nurses.

Pyxis has provided us with a test system free of charge. You just need to
ask for it. I believe you can get it for 6 months for testing and renew if
needed.

There is a pyxis emulator that you can use in magic test system. We had
it added when we were still 5.4. It is standard in 5.6

Is this in Magic? I opened a Meditech task to find out about this and
they said there is no Pyxis emulator provided or supported by Meditech.
If you have this in Magic could you please provide more information?

In 5.6, under DATA PROCESSING, there is a routine for dispensing machine emulation. You can only use this in the TEST environment. However,
the way it works (sort of) is that you do a drug vend for a med on a patient's account, as if you were pulling the drug from the machine the drug was
stocked in.
You can then look an see if the correct information (billing code, etc.) gets sent over to the patient profile. What it does not do, however, is actually
test the interface between the machines. It will show you that if you vend a drug from a machine that stocks a drug against an order, the charge and
dispense will be associated with that RX#, whereas, if you vend it and is not associated with an order, it shows up on the patient's profile as an override
(a .STK dispense).
I don't think it is an actual test of pulling a med from a machine and following the electrons and codes across a bunch of circuitry and wires via an
interface to another system and seeing if the information still comes out right. It might be more useful though and I just don't know how to use it that
well. thanks cindy

We are Magic 5.61 and the emulator is under 54. Data Processing,
74. Dispensing Machine Emulator. However, this is basic. Your best bet is to
get a test machine from Pyxis. The emulator will not pick up a lot of
problems that we've encountered.
