Good Afternoon,

To those of you that are doing CPOE I have a question regarding orders that
have not been put into Meditech but have results. The scenario that we are
struggling with is often times in our ED setting more than one EKG may be
done but the order is for only for one. When we go back the next day and
try to enter an order it will not let us back date. The report format that
we use then shows an order for the day after the test was done. We are
trying not to use any paper in our ED but do not see any other alternative.
Any words of wisdom or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ruth,
Using "Enter Departmental Orders" will allow you to back date the order. It is very similar to "Enter Order", with the exception that you have an option of adding in a therapist and then you have to put in the status of the order. Other than that it is just like putting in a regular order, except that you can back date the order. Hope this helps.

We had an order for "subsequent EKG" that the physician would order for repeat EKGs that was linked to a "subsequent EKG" treatment. The subsequent tx was restricted to only populate with the order, so either the physician or the staff person had to enter the order.
