We have switched off dose range checking in Pharmacy module, but we do
use Interaction, duplicate and Allergy check.
There were too many pop ups for dose range checking, as you mention, a
lot of them because either route is not appropriate / diagnosis not
entered etc etc.
We are currently in process of implementing POM / AOM and we would have
to decide if we would switch it back on for these users.
I am wondering:
- how many people are actually using dose check range for CPOE?
- as Andrea has also asked, are you building your own into the system? -
it looks a bit technical to me!
- then how many of you are building dosing sets? I have asked Meditech
if they know of any software to load dosing set information, but without
any luck. Does anyone have info in this regard?
We use FDB by the way, and are a C/S 5.6.4 site.

Hi Andrea,
We just went LIVE with Medispan's dose ranges and have also received
many complaints from providers about the over-abundance of pop-up
warnings that don't really tell you anything. Two warnings that were
particularly annoying are the 'no LABs currently available' and 'no
creatinine threshold available'. There are some settings on page 2 of
the MIS Interaction/Conflict dictionary that allow you to stop these
warnings. FYI, the Interaction/Conflict group is attached to users via
the OE Access dictionary. These settings apply to POM/CPOE users
only...not PHA users.

Hi All,
Question regarding the loading of the Dose Ranges from the Formulary
Service
Vendor. Are you all loading this into your formulary or opting not to?
If you
are loading, does anyone have huge complaints regarding how this works?
It seems
that every medication shows a dosage warning on medications when
ordering via
POM. It's a huge annoyance to our physicians especially since the
messages
really aren't that meaningful. Do folks use their own custom defined
dose ranges
instead? Is there a way to turn these off for triggering in POM without
having
to remove the entries that are linked to the Drugs in Pharmacy?
I have not done much research on this(yet), but wanted to throw out
there to see
what others have to say. Thank you.

This wouldn't protect from a hugely overdosed onetime order would it?

Have you added all the filters in the CDP. I restrict Dose Range checking to .MAINTENANCE type for SCH med only and this seems much more acceptable to the users

Déjà vu. Just testing this today. All sorts of meaningless messages on almost every drug order.
Here are sample warnings when trying to enter a simple Aspirin order:
Type: FLAGLER STANDARD DOSE TYPE 0 Warnings
Type: .INITIAL DOSE Range: FDB-ASPI325T
Condition: ALL COMMON INDICATIONS
Renal The Patient's GFR is 104.5, no threshold available.

If I wanted a threshold for the med, I would enter one!
Seems like we should be able to take advantage of our FDB dose ranges, rather than to have to manually build and maintain them ourselves.

We use FDB, same results. We are only live in the ED, but never turned on dose range checking because of way too many alerts. Way too many "can't check the dose range" and other worthless messages. I would encourage everyone to contact Meditech and ask them to fix this. I'm on the pharmacy advisory committee and have asked them if we could work on this.
