One of our Label Printers for Lab just gave up the ghost. What are other people using for lab label printers? Are you happy with them?

Thanks,

I've tried a variety of DataMax E Class, DataMax I Class, JJWILD's,
Citizen and even Zebra Printers... In both Magic and C/S.

If you are C/S - Do you use reverse video? Do use Bold or varying font
sizes? What volume do you print?
If you are relatively low volume and DON'T use reverse video, bold or
font sizing on your labels would recommend the standard Zebra LP2844
printer defined as an "Eltron" in the UNV. In C/S, Meditch DOES NOT
code for the reverse video/bold font functions on JJWILDs or Zebra's.
If you are relatively high volume and DO use reverse video, bold or font
sizing on your labels would recommend the Datamax I 4208. Make sure you
only get a model that prints 200dpi (Such as Datamax I-4208)rather then
the 300 dpi models. Because of the way Meditech generates the printer
code the labels a 300dpi printer will function but the font is narrower
and thus things don't line up.
If your C/S I wouldn't buy a JJWILD in a million years - it's just a
waste of money! I've got JJWILD's and standard Zebra's working side by
side with no difference in functionality.

If you are Magic your somewhat stuck with the Datamax's/JJWILDs... The
nice part however is that in Magic, Meditech DOES code for the reverse
video/bold font functions on JJWILDs.

JJWILD takes Zebra Hardware (LP2844 printer) and re-flashes the EPROM
.... They stick their label over the Zebra Label and double the price!
Meditech basically put JJWILD in the label printer business by (in
Magic) NOT coding for the Zebra language but rather the proprietary
JJWILD format.

There are several other companies that make printers that emulate the
Datamax. For example Citizen model CLP521 but you must be careful as
many of these print at 300 dpi...

Let me know if you have any further questions - I personally feel that
Hardware-wise all the above companies make good products, it's more the
limitations imposed by Meditech and how they program for them.

We have an E Class 4203 Datamax and an M class 4208 Datamax. I wouldn't
waste money on the E class.....
The bulk of mine are Zebra 2844's. Great little printers, easy to set up
(ELTRON in UNV and format).
But they are limited as far as formatting, but I managed to get
something very similar to the 4208 label
and other than having the priority backlit, it works great and is easy
for staff to use.
