Another possible solution is in the MIS Location dictionary. There is a field for “Assoc Printer” that allows you to define a different printer for each client. Here is the help on that field:
Enter the mnemonic of the printer associated with the client defined at the Client prompt This printer receives forms and reports directed to this location by the OE Module.
To associate a client with the default printer, leave this prompt blank for that client.

Subject: RE: Printing in Order
Entry
Dear Susan,
We have two printers on each unit - one for lab results, Word documents, etc. and one for POM orders/requisitions. We set the POM printer as the default for the location. We made the other printer the default for lab broadcasting, and it also picks up anything else generated to print from the client. Would this help?
Christine

We also use the OE/Proc dictionary but use P3 to set where it will print. On many of ours it’s set to HERE

Bill – I would like to understand your explanation better, I didn’t know this could be done on P2. Are you C/S or Magic and would you send me a screen shot?

Jeanne and L list:
I think I may have misunderstood the prompt for PRINT HERE on page 2 of the OE PROC Dict.

Looks like if you respond with a YES, then all the reqs print to HERE location.
Sorry,
Yes, we are MAGIC 5.5 SR2
Print Here (Ask)
To allow users to respond to the Here prompt when
they enter an order for this procedure, enter Y.
Otherwise, enter N.
If a user responds to the Here prompt with Y, all
requisitions that normally print at the destinations
specified in the Procedure Dictionary print at the
location of the ordering terminal instead.
We have had issues with using the “Print Here” prompt on page two of the OE procedure dictionary. If the nurse chooses “Print Here – Yes” then it prints all the formats listed on Page 3 of the OE Proc Dict to HERE. We have multiple print formats going to different printers based on time of day etc, so sometimes our nurse’s get 4 copies of the requisition when using the print here prompt. I am in the process of trying to write print rules for these. Unfortunately, print rules do not allow use of fields such as the Print Here prompt in the print rules to tell it if Print Here is = yes, then use this destination. We had thought about not using the Print Here prompt from page two and adding a query to the CDS asking if print here, then we could use that query in our Print Rules. Anything helpful ideas would be appreciated. Here are the destinations we have for a lot of our lab requisitions:
Format Destination Print here for:
Cdf LBLJ1 M-F 7am to 7pm
Cdf LBLJ2 Everyday 7pm to 7am
Cdf LBLJ5 If query on Proc CDS = yes for Add Specimen to one in lab any time of day
Cdf HERE Print here if Print here prompt = yes

If the patient’s are assigned to rooms, you may be able to write a rule the distinguishes which printer it should go to based on the room numbers instead of just the location. Example below should print room 101’s to the printer STATION1PRINTER: all others will go do the main printer defined in the procedure:
IF{[f pt room]=”101” “STATION1PRINTER”>PRINTER, [f do print];[f do print]};
