To me if the volume is low – High School list with a dozen messages a year – email is better; if volume is high and I’m not interested in 90% of the messages, forum with classifications and threads is better. But the biggest factor for me is Newton’s 1st law – if I’ve been using something, I’ll continue to use it till it’s really lacking, and if something is new they’d better be something really great to bother logging in. Sad, but true.
Regarding the initial subject line: “Posting to Meditech-L vs Meditech Connect” does it have to be either or? I think the “L” is a fantastic resource and has been quite helpful to me on many occasions. Joe’s NPR expertise is invaluable! I answer or add my 1.5 cents whenever I can, although usually only to the poster. I haven’t made use of Meditech Connect but I envision it as more of a blog than a resource list like the “L” so I am not sure why there isn’t room for both without creating an either or scenario…

I agree with Tim. I have seen some interesting stories on MTC, and I ask/answer questions on the “L”. You can do either/or but I think both have their place.
Susan
I think each has its value, the “L” for quick answers (depending on what the issue is and who is available) and great resources of folks around. Meditech Connect, for me, an avenue for getting education from very knowledgeable users, consultants, and so on! Learning NPR for example, the format on Meditech Connect is more geared to that, versus the “L” is geared toward getting a specific answer. For me, that’s where the value is for both, I use both, but readily admit I use the “L” the most, to help and get help.

Hey folks,
I think most of us believe it’s time to deep six this thread. We can all agree:
1. Meditech-L is a great and proven resource.
2. Meditech Connect has the potential to be another great resource.
Meditech Connect person – If you will continue to “sell your wares” on the L, it is advisable to NOT say anything negative about the L. Keep your messages in a positive note and maybe you will get more attention from the L users.
My 2 cents…..
Nick
Please do NOT confuse this offer with the Meditech L mailing list. This has nothing at all to do with the Meditech L or your membership and participation in the L email list. This offer was made by another entity who chose to use the Meditech L to reach a vast number of Meditech users.
The Meditech L mailing list owner or volunteers have not collaborated with, endorsed, condoned or condemned this offer.
The Meditech L remains an independent, free source for anyone, member or not, to request and receive information related to Meditech. The L exists through donations and volunteer efforts and has done so for 20+ years. As long as there are members who find value in the Meditech L, it will continue.
As always, the L owner, Gil Arnold, and volunteer moderators Julia Carter and Lorna Johnson, are well-known, public individuals dedicated to bringing the L members the best possible service in the most simple, convenient and economical manner.
Thanks!
Julia

Here’s my 2 bits on this, the season of L drama (as it seems to be).
Surely there are php/python/whatever M.Connect uses gurus out there that can incorporate a ticker into the Meditech Connect website with the running messages from the L…
Clicking one of the messages would open up a web-based message form that would post back to the L as Meditech Connect, but that would also include your personal Meditech Connect “footer” information, including name, public info (hospital, etc) and a link back to your content on the Connect site. This form would post as well the original and your reply to your own personal blog area of the Meditech Connect site (or to a group there, whatever).

I agree David. It is a big sand box with room for both.
You may not be trying to sell anything but the sales lingo is in plain sight.

Do we have to go another week with banter back-and-forth about Meditech Connect vs. Meditech-L? Please take this offline and discuss it privately if you need to.
