I am resending in hopes of getting some responses.

We are a CS site currently using acuity points to calculate our Care
Level charges through the EDM module. Would anyone be willing to share
how you set up your point system? For example, we have our Level 1 set
to be 1 - 100 points and so on.

Also, do you add points to performing procedures such as blood draws and
other clerical-type duties? If so, would you share some of these items?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,
We are a site that has been using the acuity based charging since our Go Live 2 years ago. Here are a list of our levels..
Level One 1-15 points (Non-Urgent)
Level Two 16-25 points (Urgent)
Level Three 26-35 points (Semi-Emergent)
Level Four 36-50 points (Emergent)
Level Five 51 and higher
We assigned point values to all of our assessments. Ex)Triage is an automatic 10 points so everyone is always at least a level 1. Most of our other assessments are assigned 10 points and a re-assessment is given 2 points. The system automatically calculates a care level based on the documentation. We set up our chief complaints to automatically default certain assessments relating to that complaint and even made some of them required. Ex) Chest Pain has a Cardiovascular and Pain Assessment and a Pain Reassessment attatched to it.
We assigned points to our treatments as well. For example, we give 1 point anytime the Transfer/Lab/EKG treatment is filled out initially, we did not assign points for reassessing.
The system has worked fairly well for our organization much to our surprise. At the time Meditech had no other sites using the acuity based charging. Hope this helps

Did you have issues with double charging if users undid documentation?

No, we have not had any issues with double charging. The charge is automatically removed when documentation is undone. We have operators within our dept who monitor the batches for any out of the ordinary charges. For example, anytime there is a level one charge the chart is reviewed to ensure accuracy. Usually the level ones are those who are triaged and then leave before being seen. There have been occasions where not enough documentation was done and the nurse will have to edit the chart to ensure proper charging. We also have times when a nurse might enter an 11 for a IM injection instead of a 1 accidentally. Those errors are caught by our operators as well.

Here is what we use for our point calc.
We charge an additional charge for any procedures that have a cpt code.
It's been several years since I reviewed, but our points are associated to assessments, and we used a scenario thought process to determine the time and resources involved.

Hope this helps.
