o klinicznych badaniach nad masazem tajskim:
RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED COMPARATIVE STUDY Effects of traditional Thai
massage versus joint mobilization on substance P and pain perception
in patients with non-specific low back pain
Losowe kontrolowane badanie porownawcze wplywu masazu tajskiego w
porownaniu z mobilizacja stawow na substancje P i odczuwanie bolu u
pacjentow z nieokreslonym bolem plecow - wykazalo nieznaczna przewage
masazu tajskiego nad zabiegiem mobilizacji stawow
Although both Traditional Thai Massage (TTM) and joint mobilization
have been practiced in Thailand to reduce musculoskeletal pain, a
comparative study of these in relieving pain is not been found in the
literature. The purpose of this study was to examine the immediate
effects of TTM versus joint mobilization on substance P and pain
perception in patients with non-specific low back pain.
Sixty-seven adults with non-specific low back pain were randomly
assigned to receive either TTM (35 people) or joint mobilization (32
people). The duration of each treatment was 10 min.
The levels of substance P in saliva and a visual analog scale (VAS)
were measured before and 5 min after each treatment. Paired t-test was
used to compare outcome variables at baseline with outcome measures 5
min after each treatment. An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was
performed to compare the difference between groups.
Both groups showed a decrease in the level of substance P after
treatment when compared with levels pre-treatment (73.86?62.31 pg/ml
versus 50.43?64.39 pg/ml in TTM and 80.61?85.26 pg/ml versus 56.27?
72.77 pg/ml in joint mobilization; p=0.019 and 0.006; 95%CI: 4.03?
42.82 and 7.48?41.19, respectively).
Additionally, there was a marked decrease in VAS after treatment in
both groups (4.22?1.98 versus 2.45?1.75 in Thai massage and 4.35?1.71
versus 3.39?1.66 in joint mobilization; p=0.000 and 0.002, 95%CI: 1.12?
2.40 and 0.37?1.55, respectively). There was no significant difference
in the substance P level after treatment between the two groups.
However, the VAS pain score was slightly different between the groups
after treatment (0.88; 95% CI: 0.16?1.59; p=0.017), where the TTM
group reported less pain than the joint mobilization group (2.48?0.25
versus 3.36?0.25 VAS, respectively). Both TTM and joint mobilization
can relieve pain in patients with non-specific low back pain. However,
TTM yields slightly more beneficial effects than joint mobilization.

tajski czerwony krzyz przeprowadzil badanie nad zwiazkiem masazu
tajskiego i zachowaniem dzieci autystycznych. Masaz tajski byl czescia
standardowej terapii integracji sensorycznej i byl dawany przez 8
tygodni.
w porownaniu z grupa kontrolna zanotowano znaczna poprawe zachowania i
obnizenie lekow i niecierpliwosci.
zasugerowano, ze masaz tajski moze byc uzyty jako metoda
komplementarna do leczenia konwencjonalnego dla dzieci autystycznych.
OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to access whether there
were any therapeutic effects of Thai Traditional Massage (TTM) on
major behavioral and emotional disturbances in Thai autistic
children.
DESIGN: This was a randomized controlled trial study. Settings/
location: The study was conducted at the Rehabilitation Centre of the
Thai Red Cross Society.
SUBJECTS: A total of 60 autistic children between the ages of 3 and 10
completed this study. Interventions: Standard sensory integration
therapy (SI) was compared to the SI with TTM treatments. Outcome
measures: Parents and teachers assessed major behavior disturbances
using the Conners' Rating Scales at 0 and 8 weeks. Sleep Diary (SD),
recorded by the parents, assessed the patient's sleeping patterns
every week.
RESULTS: Sixty (60) autistic children, mean age 4.67 +/- 1.82, were
recruited. No statistical differences were seen in the demographic and
baseline data among both groups. From both the Conners' Teacher
Questionnaire and SD, statistical improvement was detected for conduct
problem, hyperactivity, inattention-passivity, hyperactivity index,
and sleeping behavior. However, results from the Conners' Parent
Questionnaire revealed an improvement only for anxiety (p = 0.04) in
the massage group, whereas when both groups were compared, a
significant improvement in conduct problem (p = 0.03) and anxiety (p =
0.01) was found. Results indicated that TTM may have a positive effect
in improving stereotypical behaviors in autistic children.
CONCLUSIONS: Over a period of 8 weeks, our findings suggested that TTM
could be used as a complementary therapy for autistic children in
Thailand.

Tradycyjny masaz tajski wywolal szybkie i powazne zmiany w formowaniu
sie kosci.
Badacze ze szpitala ramathibodi w bangkoku przeprowadzili badanie 30
zdrowych kobiet w wieku 20-40 lat, ktorym dano 2h masaz tajski. Po
zabiegu zauwazono zmiany w biochemicznych wyznacznikach zwiazanych z
budowa kosci - wzrost serum P1NP, ktory jest odpowiedzialny za wzrost
kosci, i obnizenie serum CTx, ktory oznacza zanik kosci.
Bylo to pierwsze badanie nad zwiazkiem masazu z budowa kosci i jego
wyniki sklaniaja naukowcow do kolejnych badan nad mansazem i zdrowiem
kosci (np w przeciwdzialaniu osteoporozie u kobiet).
Masaz tajski charakteryzuje sie silnym (na granicy bolu), rytmicznym
naciskiem na system szkieletowy, i wlasnie ten nacisk ma stymulowac
osteocyty.
Traditional Thai massage induced acute changes in bone formation and
resorption markers, according to new research.
Researchers from the Department of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, in
Bangkok, Thailand, had noted that mechanical loadings by active
exercise or passive low-amplitude vibration have been shown to enhance
bone mass or delay bone loss, and that "traditional Thai massage might
be anabolic to bone due to the application of physical loading on the
body in a rhythmic fashion," according to a report published on
www.pubmed.gov.
They studied the skeletal effect of Thai massage by examining the
changes in biochemical markers of bone turnover immediately after the
massage, the report noted. Subjects consisted of 30 healthy females
aged 20 to 40 years, each of whom received Thai massage for two hours
by a single therapist.
The researchers found increases in levels of serum P1NP, a marker of
bone formation; and lower levels of serum CTx, a marker of bone
resorption, following the massage.
"Study on the more prolonged effects of Thai traditional massage is
warranted to explore its implication in the enhancement of bone
health," the researchers noted.
