Ravi, do you have the C5-1 transducer for the iU22? Our Philips chap was here yesterday to perform the regular check of our machine, and he told me that the C5-1 transducer is really awesome. It will work with the iU22 if you have fairly recent software.

If you do not have it, maybe, if your machine has the required software version, you could get your Philips people to let you try it for a few days or weeks.

I think I mentioned to MI that at the AIUM meeting this past March, at the Philips booth they had an extremely obese woman as a model. I did not stay to see what was going on because it was so crowded, but I presume they were demonstrating the C5-1 transducer. They must have a lot of confidence in that transducer because the lady was really obese.

Allen, this obese woman was ectualy a man, he was so big that he had big breasts, and trust me they tested a lot of obese models just to find the one that scans easely and produces nice images.. I am sure this model will scan nicely on any gear.

OK, I just glanced at the model - And you are right, and Ravi is right, some obese people do scan well, so probably that is what they did. The acid test would be to have two iU22s side by side. One is using the C5-1 transducer, the other using the C5-2 transducer (a common Philips transducer - maybe the C5-2 does not work on the iU22 put probably it does). Then tape the transducers together and scan. It should be easy to tell if the C5-1 is better with that set-up.

I did play with the IU22 and the 5-1Mhz probe when I conducted the evaluation before buying Siemens, it sure gave a better penetration on obese patients without much lost of resolution but I never compared it with the 5-2.
BTW I also have a 5-1 probe on the Siemens and it's great
