A Brazilian bikini hair removal treatment involves removing all the
hair covered by a swim suit bottom... and they do mean "all". And
while the treatments involve a modesty level that's, how shall we say
it, something on the personal side; they seem to be increasing in
popularity among Utah's female population.
"We're doing quite a few of them," says Angie Erickson, of
Surface, a medical clinic devoted to non invasive cosmetic treatments.
"Once they overcome the initial hesitancy of asking they're curious
about all the different things we can do."
And they can do a lot. Hearts, triangles and diamonds are popular
choices too according to Surface technicians, but the Brazilian is the
frontrunner when it comes to the decision as to what should remain
south of the border.
The "Brazilian" (something of a misnomer since it started in NYC)
has gained popularity since the introduction of short shorts in the
70's. Some high end salons in NY and LA are almost exclusively
dedicated to it, but until now the permanent solution of lasers and
electrolysis have been considered too painful by most women, opting for
ongoing waxing instead. The introduction of the newest generation of
hair removal, "light pulse technology", has so reduced the level of
discomfort that many women are making the switch to a permanent
solution. The cost of having a Brazilian every three weeks at around
$75 dollars means that many of Surface's Brazilian customers are
actually saving time and money. In addition the new technologies are
FDA approved for permanency and since they're non-invasive the risk
of infection or other problems is virtually nil.
Those who have opted for the "less is more" idea express no regret
for their decision.
"We haven't had a dissatisfied client yet," says Dr. Aaron
Barson, Medical Director of Surface.
While not for everybody, in a non scientific poll conducted by Surface,
6 out of 10 women expressed interest in having some form of the
treatment.
Who would have thought that Utah is a hotbed for the Brazilian?
"You can never tell." says Angie," The most conservative women
come in for them."
Surface offers hair removal for all body parts including the French and
Mediterranean lines which are hybrids between the regular bikini line
treatment and the Brazilian.
Surface is a medical company that provides cosmetic skin procedures and
hair removal using new non-invasive light technologies. The company's
