Khoo Piggy asks: Is intrathoracic pressure the same as intrapleural pressure?

Reply by Prakash: Yes, the term intrapleural pressure and intrathoracic pressure are used interchangeably; however, please note that there are regional variations in intrathoracic pressure.

Measuring intrathoracic pressure: endoesophageal pressure has been found to be fairly indicative of intrathoracic pressure, so this is how intrathoracic pressure is measured in experimental situations (see http://jap.physiology.org/cgi/content/abstract/14/4/535)
