US supports nuclear waiver for India

Outgoing US ambassador Timothy J. Roemer today said his country “strongly supported” the September 2008 NSG waiver that cleared the way for nuclear commerce between India and the 46-member group.  “Having come from the White House and been in Washington DC just recently, I would like to say that the White House and the Obama administration strongly and vehemently support the clean waiver for India,” Roemer said on his last day in office as envoy to Delhi.

Joshis bid to take up 2G report scuttled at PAC meet 

An attempt by Murli Manohar Joshi to make the PAC take up his controversial report on the 2G scam prepared during the tenure of the last committee was today strongly opposedby Congress members but the NDA along with DMK and BSP supported its consideration. In view of the divisions in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), it was decided that Constitutional experts would be consulted on whether the report, which was recently returned by Speaker Meira Kumar, can be considered by it.

Danish court rejects plea for Kim Davys extradition

The CBI's efforts to seek the extradition of Niels Holck, better known in India as Kim Davy, suffered a setback with the Danish High Court on Thursday rejecting the plea on the ground that he faced the risk of being subjected to "torture or other inhuman treatment" in India. The extradition plea had been filed by the Danish government on the basis of a request made by the CBI to facilitate Davy's trial in India for his alleged involvement in the Purulia arms dropping case.
