I would like to instead of using the filesystem on the web server to
store all media, I would like to use a cloud storage repository like
Windows Azure or Amazon S3. Is there any work underway to extend the
MediaHandler to take advantage of anything other than the filesystem?

Hi,
We are working in integrate CDN network for storage media (videos,
audio files, images) files to any CDN network including Amazon S3,
Azure. This feature is under development and soon will be available.
