The item on the agenda is the date and the venue. These both are closely related.

My first question is what time of year do we want to do this?

BlogworldLA is in November
140 Conference?
Social Media Week (September?)

I made a quick list of potential partners in the shared document but haven't done much to contact any of them yet. A big partner would be one that could provide us the venue, but there are lots of little things that people can do like food, chair rental, wifi, etc. I would love to get companies like Blip.TV, Viddler, Vimeo, etc as partners.

So, when would you most like this event to happen and where?

if there is a social media week in september, that would be perfect...
speaking with eric, 3 months should be a perfect amount of time, 2
would be pushing it and any less shouldnt be considered

I am afraid there would be too much else going on during Social Media week. I think the submission to be part of SMW is ending soon, too.

then if possible, we aim for the weekend before or after... but id
imagine getting the time to work would depend heavily on a venue

SMW Submissions are up until July 13--so if you're wanting to make MC a part, better go for it!

There might be something to be said for not being close to a potentially similar event, where people might not be able to get time away to attend another event. Just a thought.

Oh yes. The venue is all important but there is that weird inter-relation between the two due to what dates are open at a particular venue. I have found it to be such a little dance between these two items.

Yep, It is always a dance of "Can we gain from being close to/part of" this or is it a distraction.

my mindset is to approach a venue with a couple ideal times, but be
flexible if we find one that works well but not during our times...
the ideal senario is the venue is donated, so let the venue dictate the date

Well, more what I mean is that while we're probably going to want to have it on a weekend, so most people probably won't have to take time off work to go, it's less of a problem, but people still have other (e.g. family) responsibilities, and sometimes you can only play hooky so many times, especially with so little time in between.

Yep, it tends to dictate things for sure.

I think a Saturday is best, but there are only so many of them to go around. (LAUGH)
