The 2 most critical pieces to any event are the venue and the date. They usually need to be arrived at simultaneously.

If you have connections to groups or venues that might like to partner and host us for MediaCamp, please share the info with them. If they would like more info they can contact me directly or we can do a face-to-face meeting to answer any questions they might have.

For this event I am thinking of an attendance of about 100-150 people, but that is really just a guess.

If you haven't been to an unconference before, there are typically 3-4 presentation rooms for presentational talks, several breakout rooms for open discussions around a particular topic and then a lobby area for general mingling, lunch, ad hoc breakouts and such. Each unconference and venue allows for different setups, but this is the basic layout.

Hi Douglas,

I'd make the same offer for MediaCampLA that I put out for BarCampLA:

I'm adjunct faculty in the art department at Long Beach State University. I've attended & presented at a number of BarCampLA & BarCampSD events - I totally love & support these events.

It's unlikely that CSULB or the College of the Arts or the Department of Art will offer any money to your event... but it is likely that I can secure no-charge venue for you. In the BarCamp case I'd work on camping also, as a 1-day event you obviously don't have that need. I can explore the possibilities on parking & alcohol. There's plenty of low-cost pay parking... I can work on getting free parking for registered attendees. The on-campus pub, "The Nugget" serves alcohol and so something could be worked out thru them. IDK if we can serve alcohol outside of the Nugget or what sort of costs would be associated with the Nugget.

If you're interested, probably the best thing is to have whoever wants come by campus sometime and I can show you around. I'm happy to request any space on campus you like. We have theaters, classrooms, lots of built-in data projectors, a decent wi-fi network that we could work on getting access to, etc.

Best,

Glenn,

Thank you so much!

I will definitely add Long Beach State to the list of possible venues. I will say that it is a bit farther south geographically than I would like, but if it comes down to making MediaCampLA happen, I will take advantage of the offer. It is always my goal to make the unconference happen rather than let it founder on venue or date issues, so if you have space available, we might just take advantage of it. (SMILE)

Unlike BarCamp, I don't see a real need for camping or alcohol for MediaCampLA, other than what you mentioned. Parking is always GREATLY APPRECIATED, though, so anything we could do to make that free would be great. WiFi is also nice and on the verge of becoming a necessity at events like these.

Let us see what venues we can find a little farther north, but we may be coming back to you. We won't know until we try to make contact with more folks up here.

Also, we are currently looking for a venue for CareerCampLA-2, "Building the Career You Deserve". We recently partnered with College of Canyons to produce CareerCampSCV and that partnership opened a lot of the college doors for us in regards to space, sponsorship, etc. If you know of anyone who might be interested in partnering/hosting CareerCampLA or starting CareerCamp Long Beach/South Bay, please let me know. The web site for CareerCampLA is http://careercampla.wordpress.com for more information.

Thanks again for your info and offer. I think there are a number of opportunities to partner with Long Beach State University, if not on MediaCampLA.
