The result of our survey can be viewed here:
http://www.mediatrackbuyersgroup.com/result.htm
For clarity here are 3 definitions as I use them in this post
Vendor= Racks, cases, software, consultant to service provider
Service providers = People offering secure data/documents storage ,
pick up
delivery and related services
End users = people with the need to store data/documents off site
The survey was a tool to let us understand what the first perception
and the
value of this new group would be and in that sense it was a success
The first clarification that we need to put out there is that this
group is not
intended to "compete" in any ways with the established groups as we
know
them.
Current groups are mostly educative, conference and network oriented
for the
advancement of the Data/document storage industry as a whole,
including
sales education and best practices and certifications
While the vendors to the service providers are included they play a
minor role
beyhond sponshorship.
In most of these conference, groups, the end user re; data centers
and other
people producing the data and documents needing to be secure are kept
out
of the loop.
The aim of the mediatrackbuyersgroup is to fill that gap, not another
educational group to avoid liabilities and learn about preparedness
but a true
market place for services, product presentations, presentation an end
users
and service providers web based shopping center.
A place where vendor and end users can openly advertise needs for
goods and
services and vendors can reply with their offering in a one stop shop
for
tender and rfp , kind of and not unlike travel sites that allow you to
get the
best deal w/o going to each individual airline.
A place where end user can expose RFP for their needs and get a great
service provider exposure
Eventually a classified page for people wishing to exchange/sell or
buy used
goods
A place where vendor could post their technical sheet and
presentations in a
fair an open marketplace
I see the need for a discussion group where end users and service
providers
can openly express their praise or criticism of the product they have
acquired
and used or simply ask generic technical questions "what brand of
software do
you use and why?", "Are xbrand racks really a space saver?"
Basically the current group are educational in nature and promotions
or
request for services are out of place or at a minimum risky within the
confine
of political correctness, which is the way it should be.
Whereas the mediatrackbuyersgroup would be an openly commerce
oriented
site.
Here are a few example of what I envisioned
Service providers can find alliance quickly to serve national service
request
The agregated buying power of end users and service provider for
tapes, rack,
lift, boxes, label, cases would incite the manufacturer to offer
special
promotions on a regular basis because of the audience available
The classified would allow an open market for exchange of used good
where
even vendor can act as highest bidders
