Hey Folks,

So I am not a music performer, I can't even really play an instrument.  But I've been involved with instrument design and building (acoustic and electric) for a while now.  Something that's always bugged me about DJ sets is how boring they can be to watch - some guy with a laptop, or some fake turn tables, etc, just pushing buttons.  So I had a couple thoughts on how one might be able to change that to be a more full body or visually intriguing situation.  The PDF attached has three different things going on (first page is inspiration board) - and I'll probably only be able to get to one of them as my last project for this class.  The drum pad wall type one could also be set up with wheels / large sliders or other things like that - I think.  Another idea is to make a pair of gloves with accelerometers / magnetic field sensors in them to use as a performative instrument detecting hand / dance gestures in a way that the kinnect usually can not resolve.  So what I'm interested in is feedback from performers on which of these systems would be most viable / fun to use in a performance setting.

Thanks.

Hey Sir,

I want to process some thoughts about this, but in the meantime there are a few links that I thought you might find interesting:
