Dear all,

I'm having some issues with the reconstruction of QSM because of the presence of strong artefacts.
I'm encountering three different types of artifacts in the QSM images of different subjects (see attachments).
The artifacts seems to appear from the field map estimation step despite the even echo spacing.

Does anyone know what might be the reason?
Thank you in advance for the help.

Sincerely,
Silvia

Hi Silvia,

It seems you could be working with data acquired on Philips.
Before QSM reconstruction with the standard MEDI pipeline, please run iField correction using the function provided with the toolbox, e.g. iField = iField_correction(iField);
This should remove the artifacts shown in your examples.

Please let me know if the problem persists.

Regards,
Alexey

Dear Alexey,
that's correct, data were acquired on Philips. I've followed your suggestion but, unfortunately, I didn't see any improvement.
Specifically:
- artifact 1 is not present anymore but the QSM image still shows artifacts (see Artifact_1_new in the attachments);
- artifact 2 is still present;
- artifact 3 is not present anymore but the QSM image still shows artifacts, similar to Artifact_1 in the previous message.

Thank you for the help.

Sincerely,
Silvia
