Dear friends who love plants and gardens,
As the president of ACM and a fellow garden zealot, I would love to invite you to join in our effort to create a sculpture garden at ACM starting this year! We are so excited about this amazing opportunity to create a beautiful green oasis in the middle of concrete-intensive Mystic Avenue, and hope you also will be both excited and willing to help make this happen!
We received a generous grant from Medford Arts Council to put toward this project, and an equally generous donation from Trees Medford of four young honey locusts, which are having a great rainy spring to settle into their new home. The next steps are to create a space for a rotating exhibition of sculpture, paths for wandering among the sculptures and plants, and plantings to delight the senses and calm the spirit.
Currently we have a plethora of invasive weeds and a lot of rocky fill, so the first steps are:
1. Keep the weeds under control
2. Remove the few large plants we don’t want
3. Decide where to put paths and the sculpture pad
4. Create paths
5. Design an easy-to-install-and-maintain garden using tough, mostly native plants.
6. Get and dig in the plants
7. Maintain the garden through weeding, watering, and trash pickup (because stuff blows in off the street)
8. Donate tools and supplies
9. Maybe more? ...
We welcome your participation in any or all parts of this process.
To get this project rolling, we will have a designing brainstorming party at ACM, and I’d love you to come if you possibly can. We will have some regular and adult beverages and snacks to further entice you. If you can come to part but not all of the time, that’s just fine. Please let me know (below my signature) if you can make it on any of these dates, and I will let you know by tomorrow which date/time we will go with.
Meanwhile, happy Mothers Day to all of you who are parents of any sort!
Thank you so much.
