Dear Seth,

I sent out an email earlier explaining that the SMS service is already functioning and can be used as we speak. SMS/Text messaging is accessible globally, and therefore, easy to test, use from any point in the world where there is cellphone access.

Our Text Messaging/SMS service is tightly integrated with our EMR software and therefore data-entry of data as collected by Laura is not at all difficult. In fact, we can quickly parse it into our EMR so that it is available for access via SMS immediately.

Maybe my earlier email never reached you so I am sending it again.

Please let me know if you still want to proceed this path.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We enhanced our existing Tele-health system based on the feedback from the IDP/refugee crisis that has besieged Pakistan due to the War on Terror for over a year. Millions of people have been displaced and need urgent care. In 2009, we treated 15,000 IDPs in rural Mardan which is in addition to 30,000 regular patients under UM Healthcare Trust (http://www.umtrust.org/).

Our system can be used globally without the need to buy/install as it based on SaaS model. Patients are also tracked/mapped on Google Maps in realtime and we are able to track where they are.

Here are some of the salient features.
  • Web Based Jaroka Tele-health
    • Web based patient medical record management. So no need to buy and install the system.
    • The system is based on openEMR that we used as a base to build/enhance based on our requirements
    • Salient features include
    •     * Free for Disaster and rural healthcare
          * Multilanguage Support
          * Complete tracking of Medical Records including SOAP
          * Document management
          * Integrated practice management
          * SMS/Text Messaging Support
          * Track patients in realtime on Google Maps
          * Track Diseases in realtime on Google Maps
    • SMS/Text based Services include
      • Add/Register a patient
      • Submit a SOAP record - Patient Diagnosis and Treatment
      • Retrieve a SOAP record of a patient - Review a Diagnosis
      • Register a pregnant woman - or anyother special case
      • Register a child under 5 - tracking infants
      • Send automated messages to patients - alerts
      • Send vaccination alerts - alerts
    • Google Maps Meshup
      • Track patients (Male, Female, Children) in realtime on Google Maps
      • Track diseases (30+ diseases) in realtime on Google Maps

The system is currently being run at our rural Mardan health facility. More details of it can be found in our blog as well as our website listed below:

For latest features list: http://blogs.tele-healthcare.org/
Project Website: http://www.tele-healthcare.org/

Let us know what we can do to assist. As our system does not require any installation and is ready to use within an hour.

We would love to learn more of how to assist you in your PDA application. We plan to build our own PDA module later in the year (as part of our comprehensive Tele-health services) as we are waiting for some donor funds to arrive before we commence work on that application.

Hi Aman,

Apologies for not keeping you up to date over the past 24 hours. What we would like to do is a simultaneous trial of the iPhone-based app iChart and your own SMS-based app, to see for ourselves which works better given the situation.  Can you work with Carlos to get him what would be required at Fond Parisien to do so with a subset of doctors there?  Carlos, thoughts on this?

Thanks again for all your help!

Seth

Hi All,
I do not know if sms based app is still required or not. However I would be happy to collaborate with anyone who needs it.
Thanks

Hello,

Carlos won't have data service  for a couple of hours.
He asked to resend this including Mite Nishio, please include Mite in any following mail.

I am entering data in a simple spreadsheet. I'll Fw to you later

I have an iPhone with service, please tell me how to download the app to use it.

Regards,

Laura

Laura is starting to enter patient data in a Google Docs spreadsheet (excel compatible).
She will send you an email with access to it later during the day.
Please, Seth, send draft specs and let's get working on it.

I am bringing Darwin Muñoz (from UNIBE) and Laura Díaz (la...@educar.org) into the discussion.
Laura is down here in the field gathering the data by hand and taking patient pictures with her iphone.

Regards,
Carlos.

Excellent Aman!
I am copying Seth, JP and Alejandro Miranda who are working together on drafting specs.
I am also copying Margarita, who has been working on figuring out innovative ways to help.

There is a meeting today on the topic...

I am also copying Alejandro Baez, coordinating efforts from the Dominican side

Hi Carlos,
Please see my message on facebook. my team would be happy to customize this app that you can use on any java enabled phone. you dont need iphones or anything. all you have to do is specify what fields you want. once we have these fields we can customize app and send the app to you. once installed it will send data using series of text messages that are hopefully cheaper than internet where you will be in haiti. i will offer this absolutely free of course. once you capture data on the field and send it via text, another app at the server end will populate a spreadsheet or website (whatever you want) and send the consolidated data via email. it can also generate reports from this data using whatever parameters you want to specify. the tech is not open source and is licensed but as committed earlier we will not be charging anything for this for you to use. i dont know how much a text message will cost to send the message to india to our server. however if this is too costly we have a backup. we will send the settings to you along with detailed instructions to set this up with you either in haiti or wherever you feel it would be best for lowest incoming message cost. thirdly if someone is willing to takeup the travel cost one member of my team can even fly in from india and come with everything ready to set this up in few hours. let me know what works for you
best
aman
