What is acrylic or Plexiglas?

Acrylic was first introduced by the Rohm and Haas Company in 1933 (Plexiglas). 
While it looks like glass, it is stronger and about half the weight. Acrylic is also crystal clear. Acrylic sheets can be cut, beveled, polished, and even formed in ovens to make from beautiful Acrylic Awards to stunning Acrylic furniture. Acrylic sheets can also be cut for windows, airplane windshields, cubes and Acrylic works of art such as Sculptures.

Lucite is a brand name for Acrylic. Other brand names for Acrylic include Plexiglas and Polycast. Over the years the words Acrylic and Lucite have become synonyms.
