All,
I am currently looking at sending our bikes to nationals. I was considering sending them packed on a grey hound, as the quote was $600 one way. We have 15 bikes. Does anybody have feedback on this method/ a better option? We are prepared to drive the bikes, but are looking to avoid this option.

Thanks in advance,

I used to coach SCAD cycling team. We used a grey hound.

You need two seats per bike. Taking front wheel off. You may need a blanket to protect seats.  I’d get approval from greyhound and explain these are clean bikes.

Just count the bus seats out. You can also use the isles in the back.

Kim,
So you physically put the bike on seats. How do you go about that? I was considering putting them beneath the bus in bike boxes through their shipping service.

Yes we took off the front wheels and the bike took up two seats.

You need to coordinate loading a sitting as it’s a bit tricky.

With 15 bikes you could use 6 rows. One bike on each side of the isle so 2x 6 would be 12 bikes. You could get three to 4 bikes in the isle.

You can use the under storage if the bags are packed. The space is very large. You could pack coolers and tents too.

They should have dimensions available. Our cost for the bus was $1200 per 24 hours. But the university had a deal. So check with the athletic department to see if the univ has a contract. Maybe you could meet up and look at it in person.

It was great but we always arrived early to make sure we had parking.

We traveled on the bus with the bike. Just thought I’d mention that.
