Dear all,

This week's talk will be on Tuesday, October 8th, from 11:10 am to 12:00 pm in 3110 Etcheverry Hall and https://berkeley.zoom.us/j/95785043475.

The speaker is Tommy Hosmer, who is advised by Prof. Tarek Zohdi from the mechanical engineering department, and he will be speaking about Model Order Reduction of Vlasov Solver

Here is the abstract:
The Vlasov-Poisson system of equations is used to study time evolution phenomena in non-relativistic plasmas; however, it is computationally expensive to solve directly. This talk will describe state of the art reduced order modeling techniques and the physical regimes we are interested in compressing. Applications of this research will extend to design optimization to mitigate instabilities in inertial confinement fusion experiments.

Coffee and donuts will be provided in-person!

Best,
Ian
