Has anyone tried to use the board to drive larger motors? What are the constraints involved?

The main limitation is the current limit of the a4954 drivers.  You can find fairly powerful steppers that are wound for relatively low currents though.  Here is one that seems to work pretty well:

This is the same link but for the U.S. http://us.stepperonline.com/nema-23-cnc-stepper-motor-24nm340ozin-18a-23hs411804s-p-126.html

I ordered one to test it out.

Any suggestion on how to drive a 5A motor?

I bought the motor you suggested and it arrived. I forgot that I need a spare encoder magnet that mounts on the shaft. In order to use my board on a new motor.

I looked at the BOM and could not find it. https://github.com/jcchurch13/Mechaduino-Hardware/tree/master/BOM

Can you give me a part number for the encoder magnet? (can you sell spares?)
Can we place an order for more boards? (with an unknown ship date understood)

Here is the magnet we are using:

http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D42DIA

There are other options, but please note that the magnet MUST be diametrically magnetized and not axially magnetized.

We have been selling the PCBs and servos on our website, tropical-labs.com, but they are temporarily out of stock while we take inventory.   We should have more in stock in the coming weeks.

Thank you. I ordered 25 of the magnets. I will order more boards when they become available.

Are there any shims or alignment tools for mounting the magnet to the shaft?

The boards come with magnet.

I use a nylon washer to space magnet off of shaft.

No matter how much I try every time I need a stepper motor, I still get the best pricing from https://www.oyostepper.com/ and their packing is exceptional.
