Hi,

We need a group strategy for handing Melrose Sports, both for school activities and for independent leagues. Should contributions go to boosters for each team, or to a unified groups like the city-wide PTO?

Our son played soccer for Melrose High School, so I can recall that the parent attendance is actually higher in the younger
independent leagues. However football attracts many folks from around Melrose. As folks noted last night there is a Globe article:

"
the Melrose Red Raiders will charge onto a new turf field on Nov. 4 to play their first football game at the high school’s new $4.5 million athletic complex. ... The Arlington game originally was scheduled as an away game, but the school agreed to move it to Melrose for the grand opening,  “This [Nov. 4 game] is supposed to be a ‘soft’ opening, but it seems like everyone in Melrose plans to be there.’’"

(The full Globe article is here.)

Hi,

If no one else is available, I can be at the field on Fri Nov 4. Marisa and I probably met at the Newton presentation. The game starts at 7PM. I will ask if we can hang posters on the fence like: "What is the Melrose Energy Commision" and a new one of the vine with leaves indicating savings. Otherwise we could use an easel. There will probably not be space for a table, so I will use an apron with pockets to hold the green handouts.

Several towns like Winchester and Concord do not have high school football teams, so the towns concentrate on soccer. But in Melrose, I've heard that many folks go to football games, while the boys's HS soccer does not even get all the parents. (Perhaps there are more at the girls's soccer games.)

I called the athletic director twice but only spoke w/ the secretary. I will call again and send email.

I've also called Friends of Melrose Football for a listing in the game's program guide. Bill's wife asked me to call back on Sat.
