Since 2000, David Best has designed and coordinated the construction of approximately half of the Burning Man temples. Established as sacred spaces of reflection and prayer, all of these have been massive, incredibly intricate, wooden structures. During the week of Burning Man, the Temples are adorned by participants with memorials and inscriptions. The structure is burned in a cathartic ritual to inspire healing and community.
Our plan presents a bold vision for where Temple needs to be going forward, while remaining steadfastly true to our enduring mission and values. Our plan addresses the needs of our students, faculty, staff and broader communities. We will focus our efforts around five strategic priorities: boundless access, educational value, thought leadership, community engagement and reputational excellence. Our strategic initiatives, which will allow us to work towards these priorities, crosscut all aspects of university life and will result in tangible changes to how we learn, teach, work and live at Temple University. I encourage you to review the plan and initial set of initiatives below, and to visit this site for updates on our progress and new initiatives.
