Heres the essence of the problem: I have DropBox Pro installed on an iPhone 5s, iPad Air, MacBook Pro and Windows desktop computer. I do NOT want to clog up my iPhone, iPad and MacBook with files from DropBox. I want to simply upload and then delete them from the mobile devices. I'd like to use automatic Camera Upload but when I delete the photos from my iPhone or iPad I do NOT want them deleted from DropBox...as has happened on numerous occasions (most recently when I exchanged a broken iPhone for a new one and then tried to copy content from one to the other and subsequently delete unwanted photos...on the iPhone, not "unwanted" from my DropBox space). So how do I do a one way sync? Keep in mind that after photos appear in the Camera Upload folder, I MOVE them to a different desired location...and when they're deleted from my iPhone, they are still deleted from the new location!

1) Navigate to the location within your Dropbox where you'd like to upload files
2) Select the ellipsis button (...)
3) Tap the "Add Files" button to select the files to upload. There is also an option to create a new folder.
I was able to clear MANY gigs of space off of my iPad, iPhone, and my MacBook Pro Retina using this feature within the Dropbox App on all devices. After I kept them all opened and made sure all syncs were finished, I deleted an unwanted pic from my camera roll. This kept the pic on my dropbox while it was removed from every device I had it located on. The program worked flawlessly. I then deleted every pic from my devices as I only wanted access to them online since my Macbook or iPhone is almost always with me. Now, I'm completely untethered from my local internal and external storage. Perfect solution for the supply and demand I was needing so desperately.
this doesn't work for me. if I delete photos from my samsung smartphone then they immediately get deleted from the dropbox folder on my pc. I'd like to be able to free up space on my smartphone but keep the photos in Dropbox folder on other devices
Not true. The Dropbox app on mobile devices does not store files like the regular computer clients do. Yes, it may have a copy of the files for a short time, but this is just a cache. The only files stored permanently on mobile devices are those marked as available offline. Otherwise any files stored locally by the Dropbox app are periodically deleted automatically.
Deleting the photo from your Photo Gallery (after it has been uploaded of course) will not delete the copy that was uploaded to Dropbox. The Carousel app (discontinued) had a nice feature that would purge any photos from the gallery that had already been uploaded to Dropbox. It's likely that will be incorporated into the Dropbox client at some point.
If I click on a particular image in DropBox from the Photos tab and then select "..." for its settings I see that is say "Make Available for Offline" which can be toggled to "Remove From Device". Which is the correct setting to remove them my device?
Is there a way to set the default to "Remove From Device" if that is the setting I'm looking for? I don't seen any obvious way to select all the images and set this globally.
Current Setting on all images and movies in Dropbox - "Photos"
Hi I am new to Dropbox & I have downloaded all my photos into my Dropbox on my PC & now I am wanting to delete the photos off my iPhone & iPad what I want to know is will I lose them from my Dropbox on my PC if I delete them off my mobile devices please help
I have the same problem, spent already 1 hour just to remove a picture, there is no x if I hover over the picture and I tried with several browsers. If I click on the picture the menu that comes up only gives options to replace or edit but I simply want to DELETE it.
In the edit mode, hover over the image to be deleted [do not click on it]. The element frame will become visible around the image. Move mouse pointer to upper right hand corner of the element frame [there is an X there], now click on the X to remove the element [image] and confirm the deletion.
My god you never answer him just keep asking questions that arn't what he is asking. I have the same problem I click on an image-edit then there is no x on the right hand side. There is one on the left but all that does is close the image back down.
Hey there - I read somewhere that optimizing file type and size will make my Weebly site load a bit faster. However, I can't find the media library anywhere on the backend. Can you point me in the right direction? So I can delete old/wrong file type images and replace with optimized ones?
I have the same problem. No way to delete, only to replace. Only way round that I found was to use my graphics program to make a tiny white square, 2 pixels by 2 pixels, then used that to replace the image I no longer wanted to see.
Without knowing where the source file is being stored, iphoto or a folder on the desktop, I would simply recommend you select said photo, and drag it to the trash bin in your dock. Hold down command to select many photos.
If you have chosen iPhoto or some folder as a source for your desktop pictures, the only way to remove individual items from the choices you see in the System Preference is to delete them from iPhoto or from the folder they currently are in.
If you just want a particular selection of images to appear in your choices, copy them to a newly created folder somewhere in your home folder (a folder named something like "Pictures for Desktop" is a good name & the "Pictures" folder in your home folder is a good location). Then choose that folder in System Preferences & you won't have to sort through anything else.
I was being specific. On both my iMac (Snow Leopard) and Macbook Air (Mountain Lion), when I go to System Preferences> Desktop/Screen Saver and then look on the left side of the window, I see three file labels. One is Apple for the default pictures, one is iPhoto, and the last is Folders with subfiles one of which is called Pictures. When I said the Pictures Folder and iPhoto I thought I was making it clear that the Folder called Pictures and the Folder called iPhoto were the two places I was referencing. Are other Apple computers different than mine? All I'm saying is that if I had meant Apple>Desktop Pictures I would have specifically referenced it in my initial question. I hope this clarifies.
Thank you, I see you understood my question. The Folders>Pictures in System Preferneces>Desktop/Screensaver are pictures that I got off Facebook when you right click on a picture someone has posted and you have the option to set as desktop. When I do that they end up in the Pictures subfolder under the Folders label. Some of the pictures aren't worthy of being a desktop and I would like to delete them. I know that I can delete the whole folder but I don't see a way to delete them singlely(?). To me it just makes sense that one should be able to delete them one at a time if one wanted to. If that's not possible, I will make a separate folder with just the photos I want as desktops and then delete the whole Pictures Folder and then repopulate it with desktop worthy photos. Also, for some reason, several of the pictures that I "set to desktop" are not ending up in the said Pictures Folder and I don't know why. I didn't have that problem till recently.
Thanks. The only place I have a specific Folder named Pictures is System Preferences>Desktop/Screensaver>Desktop>Folders>Pictures. Pictures in that folder are ones that I have "set to desktop" from Facebook or some other place on the internet. I don't know how to delete single pictures from that Folder. I do know that I can delete the entire folder but that's not what I wanted to do. I will if I have to and repopulate it with just pictures that I know are desktop worthy. Whenever I see a photo I think might be a nice desktop I right click on it and set to desktop and it ends up in my Pictures Folder that I referenced above. It's not always desktop worthy but I don't know that until I set it to desktop and then I can't get rid of it from that Folder.
No, they aren't in iPhoto. I know how to work with iPhoto. I don't know if something has changed lately in System Preferences but when I used to go to Desktop to change to a different picture in the Folders>Pictures that I have "set to desktop" from Facebook or somewhere else on the 'net or from my iPhoto, they don't all show up in this Pictures Folder like they used to. I did recently delete a bunch of documents which were mostly pictures in iPhoto as well as the one in said folder. I checked to make sure they did't delete from iPhoto but didn't check to see if they would delete from said Folder. They did delete from said folder, the ones I wanted to keep as well as the others I didn't. I just simply want to delete single pictures from that Folder that are not desktop worthy after I started to repopulate it with Pictures. And for some not all the pictures I "set to desktop" go to that folder anymore. I like to be able to organize things to my preference and with this particular Folder, I can't or at least I don't know how to unless I delete the whole Folder and repopulate it with only pictures that are desktop worthy. Thank You!
Go to System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver>Desktop Pictures. Find the folder which contains these pictures in the list. Double-click it. This will open a Finder window of the folder above that folder, with that folder highlighted.
Double-click it and you will see its contents in the Finder window. You can check what any picture is by clicking it once to highlight it and hitting the space bar. If you don't like it you can drag it to the Trash in the usual way.
Your home folder is the folder with a house icon on it (thus the name) in the top level "Users" folder on your hard drive. This is a very basic feature of OS X you should learn about. The easiest way to do that is to type "home folder" into the search box in Finder's "Help" menu item at the top of your screen when Finder is active (when "Finder" is the second item showing in the menu bar along the top of the screen).
