Hi there,

I have measureit installed on a raspberry pi, and this is connected to my router by ethernet cable.

I know that the grabber/sensor is working, as when I look up the IP address it shows readings.

However, I've noticed that after 5 hours it stops posting data to the PV output web-site.  I can re-start the posting by turning the power off and on to the raspberry pi, but this is obviously not practical.  I've tried re-starting the grabber but this doesn't fix the problem, unfortunately.

I've been using the raspberry pi for around a year, without any real issues, so I was just wondering if anyone may be able to help please?

Kind regards,

Pravin

Hi Pravin,

this is something your router is doing. Measureit does not connect the pi to the internet. It use the existing internet connection from your pi.

If your pi is not connected to the internet no data is logged.

You had to find out why your pi does not have a inernet connection.

Can you connect to your router and see a state information about the connected devices?

What is the ip address of your pi? Can you connect with a terminal to the pi and ping a website?

F.e. ping google.com

Hi Thomas,

I hope you're well.

Thanks for your response.

The IP of my raspberry pi is 192.168.1.187

When I log into my router I see the raspberry pi is connected to Port 4, and it appears to be online.

However, when I connected to my raspberry pi using SSH and pinged google.com I got the following results:

2 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1012ms

I understand this means there is a problem with my router.  I don't recall changing the settings of this recently.  I'll try changing ethernet cables first.
As a last resort I suppose I could also reset my router settings back to the factory settings.

Hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Pravin

You can try to restart the network.

This command as root restart the network.

service networking restart

Do you have network again? If yes just try to run it as a crontab job periodly

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for the belated response.

I've tried restarting restarting the network  command (using SSH) but that doesn't work.

Incidentally, I've generated a new API code on PVOutput (I've logged into the raspberry pi ip address, and updated the API key on the sensor/grabber/system, and restarted the grabber.

The only thing that seems to work is  to re-boot the rpi - this seems to allow the rpi to connect to the internet (I've checked using by pinging google).

Oddly, when I reboot the rpi the API key on IP address reverts back to the old API. When I update the API on rpi's IP address, and restart the grabber, it posts on the PV Output website.

However, the rpi automatically loses internet connectivity (ethernet connection) after 5 hours from when I reboot the rpi.

I'm wondering if it would be quicker to format and reinstall the original image on the rpi's micro SD card, i.e. to start again.

Anyway, thanks for your help to date with this.  I realise that there are much more pressing concerns around just now.

Take care,

Pravin

Hi,

Just letting you know that I reinstalled the measureit image file onto a new micro SD card, and this seemed to solve the problem.

Kind regards,

Pravin
