I mentioned that one of the reasons we still let things go as they are is because of Manifest destiny and the belief some people have regarding that.
What is Manifest Destiny?
Ok so the engineers red team who put together this 200 year project they no doubt believe in Manifest Destiny and my crew here are Americans and I am Canadian.
So you can make argument all you want but examine the world and it is completely Americanized. Every intersection in ever major city looks American. Yes in London and here in Victoria BC we have double decker buses, we are part of the commonwealth, and their roots are from the commonwealth as well. Their language their literature their basic understanding of law etc as opposed to French where the Napoleonic code is used rather than Common Law.
Lets get a definition on both of those as well... The Napoleonic Code (
Code Napoléon), established in France in 1804, is a foundational civil law system that replaced fragmented laws, emphasizing equality for male citizens, property rights, and secularism, influencing legal systems worldwide despite limiting women's rights and reinforcing patriarchal structures. It codified laws on property, family, and contracts, embodying Enlightenment ideals of reason and individual liberty, and remains the basis of French private law today.
And Common Law
How is common law different from civil law?The two main legal systems used today throughout the world are common law systems and civil law systems. What’s the difference? Well, while common law systems rely on caselaw and legal precedent to guide their decisions, civil law systems rely primarily on codes and statutes.
Specifically, the civil law legal system — which originated in mainland Europe — centers around a comprehensive code of statutes that clearly outlines everything from the procedures for handling claims to the punishment for offenses. Simply put, civil law systems have clear rules for how judges need to rule for many specific disputes. Unlike common law systems, civil law court decisions are not binding in other cases, even if the facts are similar.
Does the U.S. use common law or civil law?
There are many countries throughout the world that use common law legal systems, including the United States, which originally based its common law rules on English common law.
In fact, every U.S. state — with the exception of Louisiana — has a common law legal system. Louisiana stands alone as the only civil law state since its system is still based on the French civil code that was in place before the U.S. purchased it in the early 1800s. Similarly, the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, which was a Spanish colony for hundreds of years, has a civil law system based on the Spanish civil code. But other than that, the U.S. is a common law country.
And for Canada Quebec uses the Napoleonic code.
So a major difference and it merely shows that philosophically their beliefs in human rights are very similar.
And so whether it is Hollywood culture or youtube or google it is adopted by the world and as different as China is from the West it merely changes what it got from America as America used it for cheap labor.
The same.
And they are the largest economy in the world by what sort of margin?
The American economy is the world's largest by nominal
Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with projections for 2025-2026 showing it over $30 trillion, significantly larger than
China (around $19 trillion) and dwarfing the next tier of economies like Germany, Japan, and India. The U.S. accounts for over a quarter of global economic output and maintains high productivity, leading other major economies in growth and innovation, driven by strong tech, finance, and other diversified sectors.
So that is what Manifest destiny did for the world and you need to do what I did to see the difference and that is to get the full National Geographic collection and start looking at the end of the 1800's and look at all the countries from there right through to the modern times.
And you will see how countries that were starving to death now have far more people and are not starving to death they are surviving. And in many cases thriving.
India was starving to death and China was starving to death most of Africa was starving to death. Pakistan, Bangladesh all starving.
Europe was doing not bad like the US starting to get electricity and automobiles.
But America had lots of land to develop and plenty of resources and very ambitious people who embraced freedom that did not find in Europe as Europeans.
So my opinion is not the same as other people's regarding their excuse to use Manifest destiny, since two world wars and the nuclear problem and their love of war makes them suicidal and they are bullies, and they destroy culture in other countries, so it is more to do with gaming and competition, than with civilization from a philosophical point of view.
But if it is a 200 year project or 2001 year project then we are bound by that contract until the timer goes.
So we wait and see. It might be an upgrade script and we are bound by that as well. It does develop things I need, and replace things I don't like or don't want.
So I am not complaining.
