Real men eat quiche don't kid yourself. So as part of our workshop we will lean on that premise and see if we can't get some emotion out of our audience so they will get their endorphins, their oxytocin and their dopamine and if possible adrenaline first.
So Bill is the daughter's farmer, her dad, and he has a brother named Jake who works in the coal mine.
And so unlike Bill, Jake took a shining to John right away the day he was driving down the road outside of town and saw John with his motorcycle there on the side of the road where the motor had quit.
He stopped and asked him if he could use some help and the boy was very polite and friendly and appreciative, so Jake got his tool box out of the back of the old truck and had it running in under 5 minutes.
John was so relieved as he heard the motor running he was all smiles as he shook Jake's hand.
And for Jake being a believer and looking for good deeds to do like that it filled his heart with joy. And so it should. The next Saturday after work they ran into each other again, this time at the baseball game. John surprised Jake with a coke when he saw him sitting there in the stands at the game.
So they hit it off real well. That was the last time John saw Jake.
Jake was one of the spindly sort of tall men that wear a lot of black clothing, much of that is due to working in the coal mine and the coal dust getting into everything. The next day at work Jake was telling the guys about John when an explosion shook the mine far down the horizontal shaft, and the shaft was sealed with debris.
It wasn't long before pretty much the whole town was at the mine gathered all around the mine shaft.
Men hurried down to assess the damage and came back almost cryin.
More men hurried down there and started removing the debris there were 30 men trapped in the mine, Men from town joined the line as they passed what rubble they could carry from man to man up the shaft.
2 hours went by and there was no hope they were going to get out. They could hear the men but couldn't help them.
Jake was there calming them down as best he could in the darkness.
Look at it this way guys, everyone has to go some time, and soon all our trials, will be over.
And he started to sing.
There's a better home awaaatin in the sky Lord in the sky.
Then the others joined in, will the circle, be unbroken, by and by Lord, by and by, There’s a better home a waiting, In the sky Lord in the sky,
Jake solo: I was standing by the window, On a cold and cloudy day,
When I saw, the hearse come rolling, To car ry my moth er away,
The men above stopped working for a moment and everywhere it went silent above and they could hear them now.
And with tears in their eyes, the whole town outside that mineshaft, joined in,
Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye
There’s a better home a waiting
In the sky Lord in the sky
