Objectives of the
training:
Orientation to the National Airborne Infection
Control Guidelines, Government of India
Bio-aerosol behavior in indoor spaces, effects
of humidity, sunlight and other factors
Engineering interventions in the context of
comprehensive infection control plan for tuberculosis, and other airborne
agents.
Hospital design and space utilization for
optimal control of airborne infections
Natural and Mechanical Ventilation, engineering
Directional airflow: design and measurement of relative room pressures for
isolation
HVAC Design, planning, implementation and maintenance.
Air-filtration in-duct and free-standing room
air disinfection units: use, selection, limitations and maintenance
Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) air
disinfection: theory, system design, fixtures, UVGI measurement, safety,
limitations and maintenance. Upper room versus UVGI in ducts or room air
cleaning devices
Strengthening ART centres, Intensive respiratory
care centres, isolation units, and other high aerosol generation sites.
Understanding monitoring and evaluation mechanisms
in regard to AIC.
Laboratory design and Biosafety cabinets –
planning and designing spaces for laboratory strengthening
Expected Outcomes of the
Training:
-Able to explain the principles of infection
control and key elements of National AIC Guidelines
-Understanding of the hierarchy of infection
control measures
-Comprehensive understanding of environmental
control measures for airborne infection prevention and control
-Able to understand how HVAC designs are made for
specific type of settings, and know the planning and implementation for the
same. In addition would be able to understand the importance of maintenance and
how it is to be carried out.
-To be able to apply principles of building
design and environmental interventions like natural, mechanical ventilation,
filtration and UVGI to Health Care and Special Settings in daily practice.
-To be able to understand considerations for
design, planning and implementation of measures in high risk sites.
