I spent several hours yesterday searching the banks of the Potomac River for cast skins of Ophiogomphus susbecha without success. In fact, I only saw 6 dragonflies (5 species) and no damselflies. Considering the record-breaking temperatures (approaching
90 degrees) this was disappointing. The single Spine-crowned Clubtail taking its first flight, an S1 species, was really the only highlight.
