I spent several hours yesterday searching the banks of the Potomac River for cast skins of Ophiogomphus susbecha without success.  In fact, I only saw 6 dragonflies  (5 species) and no damselflies.  Considering the record-breaking temperatures (approaching 90 degrees) this was disappointing.  The single Spine-crowned Clubtail taking its first flight, an S1 species, was really the only highlight.

Dragonflies Seen:
Spine-crowned Clubtail – 1 – teneral male netted
Springtime Darner – 1
Stream Cruiser – 2
Common Whitetail – 1

Butterflies Seen:
Eastern Tiger swallowtails – 8
Zebra Swallowtail – 1
Cabbage Whites – 3
Orange Sulphur – 1
Clouded Sulpher – 1
Pearl Crescent – 1
Eastern Comma – 1
Red Admirals – 3
