The current issue of American Butterflies has a substantial feature on distinguishing eastern Colias species.  For philodice vs eurytheme normal (i.e., non-alba form female) says author and ace lepidopterist Jeff Glassberg (he of NABA and countless butterfly ID guides):
"Orange Sulphurs have at least some orange on their wings while Clouded Sulphurs have none..my advice is to go with the the orange/no orange [guidance] and be happy!"
