2013 Michelin Challenge Design Registration Opens October 1, 2011

In response to requests from design educators, administrators and students, Michelin Challenge Design is pleased to announce that the 2013’s transportation design competition Registration/Entry Form will begin October 1, 2011.

Participants will be able to register beginning October 1, 2011, and then submit their design proposal as two-dimensional sketches, drawings or renderings by June 1, 2011.  This is a unique and exciting opportunity to feature your students and school in a design contest that has now reached thousands of participants around the world.

Michelin Challenge Design participants have their work entered into a formal review process by a jury of prominent automotive industry designers and experts who share a passion for vehicle design and innovation. Past Michelin Challenge Design finalists’ projects have been displayed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Being selected offers an outstanding addition to any designer’s portfolio and a chance for your school to gain recognition on the international design scene.

Michelin is happy to announce the theme for the 2013 Michelin Challenge Design competition:

HALF! Lightweight with a Passion

Designers create the inspirational forms that drive desire for vehicle ownership, but they will also contribute to lightweight vehicle development through materials choices and using the most effective manufacturing techniques.  Successful design relies on closer cooperation between design, engineering, manufacturing and planning than ever before.

Participants are asked to explore lightweight vehicle development by designing a family vehicle capable of transporting between four and six people, meeting consumer demands for safety and comfort, usable on the current road infrastructure, and production feasible using materials, powertrain solutions, or manufacturing solutions that are in use today or in development for use in the foreseeable future.

Michelin is looking for exciting and passionate designs that employ innovative vehicle architecture for weight reduction, without compromising safety or comfort. The vehicle’s lightweight characteristics must extend to the tire/wheel assembly, including dimensional specifications and visual detail of the tire/wheel assembly.

Registration for the 2013 Michelin Challenge Design begins October 1, 2011.

Visit www.michelinchallengedesign.com for information on how to enter. All entries must be in English.
