I also passed through Cranbrook on the 5th and Arriva MMC 6511 SN66WJG was on Route 5, while Hams Travel E200 KX57BWE was claiming to be on Route 27X which doesn't serve Cranbrook...

The 27X was withdrawn a couple of years ago. 

From the destination, the bus is on the 270, which was introduced last year (off the top of my head), converting a previous private contract to a "public" school route. It starts at Cranbrook School, so it looks as though you photographed it on the dead run before taking up the service. Judging from the tightness of the left-hand side of the display, I would suggest either the blind is a different size to the blindset, or the destination masking is overly generous.
