With just over a week to go, a reminder that entry to the South East Bus Festival event at Detling Showground on Sunday 10th October 2021 will be £12 on the gate but just £10 if bought in advance from the Kent Showground website.

This link will take you straight to the ticket sales page - https://heritagetransport.ticketsrv.co.uk/tickets/

About 100 vehicles are so far entered, and while it's likely that the current fuel situation (though officially not a shortage as such) will deter some from bringing their vehicles, there are usually a good number of late entries as well.

Nu-Venture will be running two bus services from Rochester and Maidstone to and from the event.
Service X21 (planned to be operated with a double-deck bus) will depart Rochester Station (lay-by outside the station) at 0930 and 1130 hours, Maidstone West Station (bus stop outside the station) at 1005 and 1205, and Maidstone East Station (bus stop opposite County Hall) at 1010 and 1210. There will be no other pick-ups and buses will return from the showground (car park by main gate) at 1415 and 1615 hours to these points.
A flat fare of £6 return per passenger (under 16s travel free) will be charged from all points and payment can be made by cash or contactless bank cards. There are no discounts for holders of concessionary travel passes and face coverings must be worn on these journeys unless exempt.

Please note that there are railway engineering works affecting both the Maidstone East and North Kent lines on the day -

Latest news including additional entries as they happen is on the event's Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/southeastbusfestival

Hope to see some of you there!

Can I flag up that GKE68 ex Chatham & District Bristol K5G which has been under restoration at SEC Faversham for over two years will be present at the Detling event on 10 October.  The Friends of Chatham Traction, the registered charity which has owned the vehicle since bringing it back to Kent from Yorkshire in the early 2000’s, will have their usual marquee in the Emson Building but the bus will be displayed in the Maidstone Hall.  Apart from painting in C&D livery (the bus is still in grey primer) bodywork restoration is nearly complete save electrical and detail fitting out although mechanically there are still a number of key tasks to be finished which we hope will be accomplished by the middle of 2022.  GKE will be towed from Faversham to Detling for this event.  The FoCT Trust still needs to raise some £12K to finish the work and showing the bus off at this event is a unique opportunity to persuade the bus enthusiast fraternity to dig in their pockets to assist!
