Nice picture Phil!
A little over 30 years, as Bexhill depot closed in 1980, and 2803 was
still a Hastings bus when the picture was taken (it later moved to
Silverhill, but Hastings worked the 467). Ironically it was loaned to
Bexhill depot during the last week of operation from that depot in
April 1980 as some unserviceable vehicles had already been moved out.
I have a picture of it at exactly the same location on a BX working of
the 495 (Eastbourne) taken during that last week. My caption says it
was loaned from SV.
After BX closed it returned to SV and trundled around on Hastings
local services for a few months before being withdrawn soon after I
photographed it again in August 1980. By this time it was the only
one still with the original grille - it's good to see preserved 2816
has an original now. It then became the Hawkhurst staff bus and was
painted yellow.
Lovely buses, as you say - they were my second favourite in the fleet
(after the AEC Reliances with almost identical Weymann/Marshall
bodies).
Neil.
