Now I'm obviously a bit behind here in keeping up to date with route developments in this area, but I thought that the 190 was one of those routes that went to the Hoo and Cliffe areas. and it was the 136 that went to Gravesend. Now I do remember vaguely hearing something about the 190 replacing the 136, so has it been extended to cover that to Gravesend? And if so, does it now do a long double run from Strood to Chatham and back between Gravesend and Hoo/Cliffe? Or does it do some sort of double run to Hoo/Cliffe between Gravesend and Chatham?

It doesn't do any of that!, Route 190 replaced Route 136 and runs only between Gravesend and Medway, while Route 191 runs from Medway to Hoo and Grain, and Route 133 runs from Medway to Cliffe Village, with RedRoute Buses operated KCC Route 417 providing the link between Cliffe and Gravesend.
Hope that helps.

Thanks James - for the record, 136 became 190 from 12 July 2015.
191 was already running with that number, so didn't change then, and is the main service from Medway to Hoo.

Whoops, when I said Cliffe I meant Grain! So it looks like route 191 now does what route 190 originally did. Whilst on Cliffe, was it the 310/311 that ran between Gravesend and Cliffe in the early 1990s, via Cobham/Meopham?

The 136 was renumbered 190 on 1st June 2015. I have no idea why this was thought necessary because the only change was an extension to the Dockside Outlet Centre in Chatham and the introduction of a limited Sunday service.

It has no connection with the previous 190, but I haven’t been able to find when that was withdrawn.

I believe the 136 was renumbered 190 as that service and the 191 were both extended to the Dockside Outlet Centre so consecutive route numberes were deemed necessary by either Medway council or Arriva

I think the reason for the renumbering was that 191 was extended to Strand and what had been 136 was extended to Dockside - therefore 190/1 formed the common corridor down to the universities. 190/1 is a little more memorable than 136/191!
