Hi all.

While out on a drive with 'JFO'  last Saturday (04/06/2022) we stopped off outside Bakkavor Salads, Tilmanstone and I photographed 15269 & 15701 on their contract services with Thanet's 15269 on the BK1 to Margate and Folkestone's 15701 on the BK2 to Cheriton via Folkestone.

One muses – looking back at the distant past – that East Kent ran many dedicated services to the same site when it was part of Tilmanstone Colliery – and probably far more than two buses each way.   Mainly to Deal?  (Someone will tell me how many and doubtless provide archive photos)

 

I was personally involved back in the 1990’s with the Inward Investment project aimed at attracting businesses to set up on the former coal mine sites and indeed did set up the first contact meeting between the former coal board land agents and the food company which was the predecessor to Bakkovar.   One of the aspects we talked about was labour availability and possibilities for staff transport provided from local operators.

In response to Richards comment, there were other workers run to Tilmanstone Salads in the recent past, and in the late 2000's now departed Roberts Coaches of Adisham did some runs with their Leyland Titans NUW553Y and A953SYE untill about 2009, and also departed Eastonways Buses of Thanet did a workers coach to Dover usually with one of their Plaxton Paramount Coaches, until summer 2013 when Bakkavor's recruitement process was forced to change, acording to both my freind Mark who somtimes drove the run when he worked at Eastonways, and also my Job Center advisor at the time.
