Can anyone help me out please with some information on a joint Maidstone & District/Southdown which used to run between Gravesend and Brighton?

I remember riding on it in the 1960s and think it was route 122.  It was operated by double deck buses and ran through Wrotham and Tunbridge Wells.

If anyone has any information about this route and the buses which operated on it, or can direct me to somewhere where this information can be found, I would be very grateful for any help

Thanks

The 122 was my favourite bus route and I must have travelled on it 20 or yhirty times between 19576 and 1962 (when I bought a motorcycle.
Mainly All Leyland PD2/12's with the rear door and simular Leylands from Southdown.
Had a stop in Hawkhurst bus station/depot where you could get snacks. I took a lot of photos of these vehicles most which are on Flickr.

Martin, the 122 didn't go via Hawkhurst - you're probably thinking of the 57 between Gravesend and Hastings, which did.
The 122 ran direct from Gravesend to Tunbridge Wells via Borough Green and Tonbridge, then continued via Crowborough, Uckfield and Lewes to Brighton.

In answer to Dennis's question, I seem to recall an article by Paul Gainsbury in an old issue of Buses Extra or Classic Bus some years ago, but it will take a little time to track it down - in the meantime, we covered the subject briefly in a thread on this group last year entitled "Service 122 Gravesend to Brighton", which you will find here, so I hope this will provide some of the answers you are looking for:
