Good evening all,

A change from the norm, but thought it may be useful to know that as of yesterday (Thursday 6th) evening, the service 281 has had a major diversion between TW town centre and High Brooms. This follows a rather nasty sinkhole opening up along Upper Grosvenor Road very close to the Grosvenor Bridge (Quarry Road/Amherst Road crossroads) during the late afternoon. The route therefore is further diverted from Tesco's, along St. John's Road, and turns right into Powder Mill Lane at the Cross Keys pub, and rejoins the main route at the Yew Tree Road junction. This means there is no service running to High Brooms station at present.

Best Wishes,
Daniel :)

I think you may have meant Wednesday which was the 6th and when I followed what I thought was a bus returning to depot along Powder Mill Lane and St John's Road (not unusual) until it continued past the depot and I then wondered what it was doing (until I saw others today, Friday).

Do you mean Dunstans Road/Grosvenor Bridge Junction? Amherst Road runs between Woodbury Park and Queens Rd. Even so that is quite a length of route without a service. Looking at the Courier website the hole is just High Brooms side of the junction - I can't think of another diversion that could be used that will allow buses to run down it.

The hole appears to be between the Upper Grosvenor Road / Dunstan Road / Grosvenor Bridge crossroads and the Upper Grosvenor Road / Queens Road intersection.

Thus, 281 buses are running Tesco's > St John's Road > Cross Keys > Powder Mill Lane > Yew Tree Lane / High Brooms Road crossroads, then normal route. Reverse as outwards.

However, from the Arriva website, dated 8 May:

Due to a collapsed sewer in Upper Grosvenor Road at Tunbridge Wells, Service 281 buses are unable to take their normal route between the town centre and High Brooms.

A temporary diversion via St. John's Road in both directions will be replaced from Saturday, 9th May, by a circular route running from the town centre via St. John's Road to Powder Mill Lane and then direct to Barnetts Wood terminus at High Brooms.
Buses will then return towards the town and Rusthall via the normal 281 route to High Brooms Rail Station but will then turn left under the railway bridge into Sandhurst Road and then via Ferndale, following the Service 277 route to Tunbridge Wells War Memorial.

~~~
Residents of Ferndale area unexpectedly now get a much enhanced service!
Until the road re-opens it will not be possible for us to serve Upper Grosvenor Road.
