Hi everyone, as you know I'm from Dover,
however I also get to Aylesham fairly regularly too.
I had ridden through Aylesham on the Stagecoach 89 Bus many times, but I first
got off the bus and had a look around in 2015 and on my most recent visit in
Late October 2016 I went with Contributor Brian East of Hythe, though he didn't
tell you about it.
While Aylesham is served by Stagecoach, it has long been the home of long established Gillies Coaches who are based on Snowdown Road, and can be seen and snapped from the Stagecoach 89 Bus: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/7167105307/, as well as the roadside: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/14303961291/, and Gillies have always operated a varied fleet but like nearby Lehane Travel in Sturry, Gillies have also moved away from the Plaxton Coaches that had always made up almost all of their fleet including their Paramount DAF's and their ex Stagecoach Fife Scotland Plaxton Premiere Interurban Volvo 52183 L583HSG: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/8555957752/.
However since Spring 2015, Aylesham has also become the new home of YMS Travel: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/20467545565/, who are now based on Covert Road in the Cooting Road Industrial Estate which is also the location of Woods Commercial Services: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/28091245013/, which receives regular visits from a wide variety of vehicles some of them Non PCV: https://www.flickr.com/photos/77145939@N08/28092213843/,: https://www.flickr.com/photos/77145939@N08/19845797304/.
Since August 2016 I have had some actual contact with YMS Travel who are now big fans of my work on Flickr, and they invited me to their depot to do some publicity photography for them which I did on my visit with Brian. If you wish to visit for yourself, YMS are more than happy for people to visit, provided you are nice and ask permission and be prepared to wear a Hi Viz coat if they are particularly busy, however there is lots to see from the street outside their gates if your too shy to go in, like I used to be!
Also near to Aylesham is the village of Chillenden which was home to the Kemps Coaches of SAB784/CBU636J fame, until 1994, and is currently home to another operator who calls themselves Kemps Coachlines, who I first noticed in late 2011, though they have NO connection to the old Kemps Coaches and are simply using the Kemps name, and currently operate up to 4 T-LTW reg Setras including T107LTW and T120LTW which I had often seen parked up in Covert Road in Aylesham on a Works Contract they used to do. They are based at a compound that until my first visit in January 2015: www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/16405001075/, I thought was an industrial park, that's called "Community Playthings"! Acording to the big sign on the Sandwich Road!, and I first noticed their depot from a Diverted Stagecoach 89 Bus in early 2012 and My 2 2015 Shots were taken in a Public Field from a Signposted Public Footpath.
But if visiting for yourself, beware of some unusual Americans!, who don't like strangers, and are very um..., "Different", to put it politely!
Finally I have attached some shots from some of my visits showing the wide variety that can be found in the Aylesham Area.
So Enjoy, and remember there's more to Aylesham and East Kent than just Stagecoach!
Hi
Everyone, Work stuff unexpectedly took me to the Adisham:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/69558134@N05/32080547154/, and Aylesham Areas on
Wednesday Morning, and on the way back towards Dover, much to our surprise Rail
River Link Buses Open Top Paxton B7TL 12 PVL227 Y827TGH from Devon!, drove past
us on the Wingham Road and so we followed it into Aylesham, but otherwise
wouldn't have stopped off in Aylesham if we hadn't seen it, and I quickly
grabbed only the attached 4 shots while my friend was turning the car around,
before we headed back to Dover.
Although I still have regular contacts with YMS Travel, I did not have time to
stop in and say Hi to them, but lots of other vehicles were also present,
though I only just had time to snap Go Ahead London Blue Triangle Buses PVL66
W466WGH parked outside, Hastings & District Buses Leyland National 56
VKE566S, parked in its compound, and through the open gates of Woods Commercial
Services, London Transport Buses Routemaster Bus RM1274 LDS67A new as 274CLT
and of course Rail River Link Buses B7TL 12 PVL227 Y827TGH which has come all
the way from Painton in Devon!!
So Enjoy, and remember there's still more to Aylesham and East Kent than just
Stagecoach!
