Hey Everyone,

Rhyon and I had a chat on Skype and thought that we should come up
with a plan and timeline to make sure that we can meet the October
10th launch of our project as noted by Tim. First we should clarify
the goal of our project. I assume it is item number two from the
group project criteria given to us by Craig:

2. demonstration of a Web conference system other than Elluminate
Live! and a comparison and contrasting of useful features for distance
education,

Could you confirm this please Tim? Were you planning on contrasting
Adobe Connect with Elluminate, or would it make more sense to focus on
demonstrating the educational affordances of Adobe Connect and leave
Elluninate out of it? I think that’s probably a call for Craig and
Tim.

The second clarification is to decide if we are planning on recording
a session for the rest of the class or try to include them all. My
vote would be to record it because of the logistics of including such
a large group.

Next steps:

1. Find a time when we can meet online and get a session going of
Adobe Connect where we can discuss and make a list of educational
affordances. We could also connect via mobile devices for fun (Rhyon
has been playing with the app needed).

2. Find another time to meet online using Elluninate Live if
necessary?

3. Create a video presentation (or host a session if necessary).

Is anything missing?

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks, Rob;

I think you have it right - focus on demonstrating the educational
affordances of Adobe Connect and leave Elluminate out of it. The
comparison and contrast should be less about a product comparison and
more about learning applications. For example, there is a video chat
feature; what's good about it and what's bad? Is the value of visual
presentation of participants worth the tradeoff in bandwidth usage and
potential lag for folks on slower connections? What is the text chat
best used for, and how could you use it to support different
applications? We can add in some addtional comparison to other
platforms as need be, but the focus should be on the core technology
(ie Connect) and how we can leverage it. That said, if there are
capability gaps that are better solved in other platforms, that would
be a good observation to make from my persepctive. I can help work
through these elements in more detail once we get online.

Craig has given me "power" to create Connect sessions for the group so
that we can explore the AU configuration and capabilities as part of
the preparation. Let me know what dates / times work for the group
and I wil plan accordingly. As I'm in one of the latest time zones in
the country, I suspect that it's easier for me to respond to group's
plans.

Thanks!!

Tim

Hi guys
AU has used Elluminate Live! as the web conferencing system for the last 5 or so years. They switched this term, and I forgot to change the Group Assignment from "any Web conference system other than Elluminate Live!" to "any conference system other than Adobe Connect". :-)
That is fine - I had agreed with Tim earlier that Group 3 can do the demonstration of Adobe Connect and leave Elluminate out of it. If some other group would like to demonstrate Elluminate Live! then that will be fine. I'll clarify this for the classs.
I would definitely like you to record the session for the whole class. I imagine that about 40% of the class will be able to attend in "real time" based upon past results.
So your plan looks really good for me.

Hello all,

I would be happy to meet anytime after 7:30 PM weeknights or anytime
weekends. I see that Donna has made a good start on writing important
notes for Adobe Connect, and I think we should continue from there as
a group. When we meet, maybe we can discuss the most important
features that Adobe Connect has to offer in a DE setting, and each
member of the group can work on one specific feature in preparation
for the presentation.

What do you think?

Sounds great Robert. I just looked at the contact info sheet and it
looks like the only time that we're all available is after 5pm
pacific, which would be 9pm atlantic time. Is this okay for
everyone?

Works for me. So to confirm, we will look to meet online on Sunday, 2
Oct, at 5:00pm Pacific, using Adobe Connect. I'll confirm the link
and post it once we are set on the meeting.

Cheers,

Hi everyone
If you haven't looked at the materials I provide in Unit 5 yet, you might want to review them before you meet. I think the Adobe videos are particularly good introductions to the various capabilities of Connect and the responsibilities of the different kinds of Connect users.

Robert,

I think this is a great idea. I listed a new post that has several
educational affordances. Maybe our group members can select a couple
each and really dig into techniques that they can be used.

My sincere apologies for being absent until now. I can be there on
Sunday :)
I've been sick, and trying to catch up on work/study/home/everything,
and on top of that, I can't access these groups from my regular google
account!
OK, that's enough of that, I don't want to be the guy that makes up
excuses.

Hi Tim,
Are there any special instructions that I need to access our meeting
on Sunday, Oct 2, I just want to be sure any software is loaded ahead
of time and that the link works for me.
Thank so much and have a great weekend.

Also, can you confirm the link to access the web conference. I believe
it is https://presents.bccampus.ca/MDDE610.

Is this correct?

Good morning, everyone;

The link is https://connect.athabascau.ca/mdde610/. You can log in in
advanace as you will need a quick download to start the session if you
haven't used Connect before.

This room is open any time (you can go in as a guest now if you want
to test) but will not get full functionlity unless a host (ie me) is
present. I'll be there early tonight in case folks want to test their
connections in advance.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Group 3
I promised Tim that I would get a "draft" announcement of your session to you yesterday. Unfortunately, I came down with some kind of malady (my daughter would refer to it as a "purple bug"). Anyway - how is this to announce your session (I'll put it in the Announcements)? Please let me know if you have any changes.

Hi everyone
Group 3 chose to look at Adobe Connect. I asked them, and they have agreed to present the Adobe Connect Session on Adobe Connect. They have been working on their presentation for the last couple of weeks, and I hope you all will be able to attend.
I have scheduled our Adobe Connect Session on Adobe Connect for October 13, 2011 07:00 PM Mountain Time

All of our Adobe Connect sessions for this class are in available at  https://connect.athabascau.ca/MDDE610.
You will be asked to log in either as a registered user or as a guest. Please choose GUEST

Adobe Connect Session on Adobe Connect Starts:    October 13, 2011 07:00 PM Mountain (MST, North America/Canada)
Adobe Connect Session on Adobe Connect Ends:   October 13, 2011 09:00 PM Mountain (MST, North America/Canada)

If you need to convert the time to your local time http://www.timezoneconverter.com/ will do that for you.

I know that some of you may not be able to attend this session, so we will record the session and make it available after the class.

Please prepare for this session by reading the material in Unit 5. This is a persistent Adobe Connect session (it lasts until I shut it down), so you can connect any time to test it out.

I look forward to talking with as many of you as possible October 13.
