owl pellet on my bird feeder

Earlier this week I looked out my window and noticed an odd lump on my tray bird feeder.  Taking a closer look, I discovered it was an owl pellet.  I guess crayfish was on the menu!

Barred owls may be the culprit.

Searching...

do owl pellets contain *crawdads

gave that indication.

I have seen a barred owl catching crayfish.  It perched on a branch over a drying up stream pool and caught three in rapid succession, with noisy fledgling owls begging in the background.
