Another idea we had was everyone should have access o business cards that have the important MD birding info so that anyone out birding in the field can become an ambassador.

Say you're looking at a Snowy Owl and someone walks up to inquire, maybe hand them a card? Open up a conversation, spur interest and get more people involved.

Here is a mock-up I had my friend design. It is not the final product, but if there was a way to get everyone some cards, why not try? Note: this is definitely not the final version, just a mock up. Having just the MDBIRDING.COM site would be cleaner, and maybe steer people to one place.

Again, these are just ideas!

Best,
Dan Haas

Awesome idea Dan !!!
I'd also like to say thank you for all you do for the birding community.

Thank Rod!

I really don't do all that much, but thanks.  If I could, I'd get you all a Swallow-tailed Kite on your yard list.  Sean McCandless? I think he already has that bird on his yard list. ;-)

Seriously, the real thanks and rounds of applause should be for Jared (his efforts on MDBirding.com are huge!), and also Jim Brighton and Bill Hubick for their epic work on the Maryland Biodiversity Project.

And of course, all of you who walk outside and observe / document the natural world around you. :-)

Best,
Dan

What a WONDERFUL idea and a BEAUTIFUL card. I would love to be able to do this (even though we are novices). Debbie & Lou Taylor

The Montgomery Bird Club has been doing this (using business cards) for several years.  I'd suggest that if people want to promote something as an entry point for beginning birders, they could not do better than recommend their local bird club (i.e. MOS chapter) or MOS itself.

Thanks so much for your input!

I know everyone want things done a particular way, and that's great.  Since I have no plans to print these cards, I'm happy to let the leaders at MOS take the lead on all future projects like these.

Of course, the design of that card should not be used, as it is a professional photographer's image and my graphic artist's design work and idea.

Finally, to put everyone's minds at ease... I have no plans to start any more rogue MD birding groups.  I promise.

Happy birding all!!

Dan :-)
