Hi MD and DC birders, I've become involved in a national effort to locate and study U.S. winter crow roosts. If you know of an active winter crow roost, regardless of its size, please let me know, and provide as much detail as you can. Thanks for your help!

The White Flint crow roost on Rockville Pike/Wisconsin Ave south of Randolph Rd has been active for the 30 years I have been in the area, and has varied in size but is always in the thousands if not the tens of thousands.  The site of the roost has moved around over the years as development has cut down groves of trees, but the birds are always somewhere around White Flint Mall (or what remains of it).  They are beginning to gather now.

They haven't returned yet this year, but usually by the end of October through March, there is a large roost near Druid Hill Park that travels along 140 heading out of the city each morning, and back in the evening.  The sky is filled with crows for several hours each morning and evening.  Let me know if you want me to reply to this thread again when they've returned this year in earnest.
